"test.file" being generated 40+ times a day? - MALWARE?

Approximately the same time I ditched McAfee (because of horrible customer support) and replaced it with Norton 360 a file names [test.file] started being generated from my primary computer and copied to my local servers trash directory.  I have done some tests (changing my network password to prevent access to server) and determined that the 0 KB file is being generated from my primary computer.  Here are some details:

  • The first instance of the file is named - test.file
  • All subsequent copies are named Copy #1 of test.file, Copy #2 of test.file, Copy #3 of test.file and so on.
  • There are batches of these files every so ofter - with as many as 6-8 files with the same time stamp
  • The file time stamp does not match the computer time with the file time stamp being 30-50 min. ahead of the computer.

This acts like MALWARE but I have tried to run Norton Security scans - no issues and I cannot find anything that stands out in the Event logs.

My primary use of this computer is for Video Production/Editing (Adobe Master Collection CS5) and email with Outlook 2010, but these applications have been installed long before this issue started happening.

HELP!!!
