Working with a machine that had a virus problem and now Task Manager, and other EXE functions will not run. Windows 7 Pro.
After
many scans with different products we have decided to just restore an
earlier image file created by Ghost 15. We have about 20 dates to
choose from. Three of them are after the time the virus hit. When we
try to access any of the older ones we get the message:
Error ED800012 The internal structure of the recovery point file is invalid, damaged or unsupported
Norton's
website suggests that this is due to a change in the compression
algorithem that occured with a live update. They recommend that you use
the Ghost copy function to copy the image file you want to work with...
and that will update the compression. However, when I try to use the
Ghost copy function, I get the following error:
E1AD3BB6 Cannot validate the recovery point destination for file xxxxxxxxx VMI: V-0-429-15286
I
spent two hours with Norton Support and all we accomplished was that
the same errors occur under just about any circumstances. They created a
ticket that was going to their development team. They said I would
hear back in about a week.
Has anyone had any experience with these errors for recovery or the copy functions?
Any insights greatly appreciated.
It sounds to me like the images are corrupted. Can you boot the SRD and use Recovery Point Browser to verify the image(s)?
One guy had a problem like this on a USB drive and was able to copy the image to a second partition on an internal HDD and do the restore from there.
The program could also be corrupted because of the virus.
Do as Red suggested and verify the images from the recovery console.
Boot to the recovery disk, go to: Analyze > Explorer My Computer.
Browse to a recovery point and open it.
On the left side of the image explorer you need to select the image file name to get the "verify" button to be active.
