I wanted to start a new thread with the issue of using the "Cold Image" feature of Ghost 15. A feature that is at the top of my list of things that need to work. I use it to make a cold image of a new system before it is even booted. Then after loading all the applications, one more cold image and I archive that in case a user has problems and I need to quickly reload the system. This worked great with the 2003 boot CD, but of course doesn't really work with Vista/Win7.
My thought is this. If Symantec writes a program to do Cold images, then it should work before it is released, or offered as an upgrade. PERIOD!
To write this program, then blame Microsoft for the issues means they did not do their homework. I am not saying it's not a problem with Microsoft, but don't offer up the program until you work it out.
I am extremely unhappy with Ghost 15, but I own 10 copies now and have no way to get a refund. I cannot do a Cold image and restore without errors. Yes, after mucking with it for sometimes hours on end sometimes I get the restore to work, but I certainly don't get that warm fuzzy feeling that it will not have issues in the future since I had to cancel it at the end to get away from the error.
Not once have I been able to just do a good restore, without having to do it pieces at a time, the Recovery partition, then I have to reboot and do the OS, then reboot and do the utility, etc. etc. Since I can cold image all three partitions, I should be able to select all of them and just put it back. I feel it would be quicker to reload the system with the original CD's sometimes.
Come on Symantec, we have put our trust in you. If it's a Microsoft issue, you and Microsoft work it out. Don't just toss the blame on Microsoft and think your customers will be happy with it. I'm not happy with this, not sure about others.
I have a lot of other customers I have on Ghost 14 that want to upgrade to Windows 7 and Ghost 15. I told them no way until this is resolved. And maybe it's hot a huge loss for Symantec (maybe 50 copies), but it's money they will never see.
So either get with Microsoft and work this out, or take it out of GHOST 15 until you do.
