In no particular order:
- The scandal involving the stolen code a few years back (don’t know about anyone else, but during that time my Norton seemed to be getting mega large updates on a regular basis)
- The auto renew debacle and subsequent court case
- The fixation with trying to make everyone use the cloud vault. They still haven’t explained this to my satisfaction and it is technically possible for a local vault to exist
- Releasing new products without fixing problems that have been identified during beta testing
- Safe search icons that are there one day and not the next. Norton always conveniently blames a third party and tells us that other layers of protection will keeps us safe (well if that is the case, why bother to have them in the first place)
- The Removal tool which seems to be a “cure all” for all problems
- The 23 of September was always the release date for Norton 2015, but Symantec pretended otherwise. I do not believe that they had not decided on the upgrade options prior to the release date. It would appear they were just keeping conveniently quiet. The promises that current users would be looked after appear wrong. It seems that it comes down to who you get when you ring/chat Norton support and how good a negotiator you are.
- Running a competition in Australia over six weeks and giving away six cars. To be eligible you needed to have a certain number of days on your subscription of NIS, 360 etc. I wonder how many people renewed their subscription to be eligible for entry to the prize draw. Norton failed to advise that anyone renewing or buying as a new customer, would be stuck on version 21.
- Telling us NS is all new, but it has a version 22 identifier (must have missed the other 21)
- Still selling boxed versions (which boldly claim that they are always up to date and newest version) and three year versions online of the now superseded 360 and NIS.
- Destroying the passion of members of these forums. In the past the members of these forums have a passion that can been seen in their writings. All I see now is disappointment, feelings of betrayal and a lack of trust (and even some anger) in what Symantec have done
- The forum conveniently changed over to the new format around the same time Norton 2015 was due to be released. The changeover resulted in a lot of lost threads and the inability to post/comment (how convenient). I hope that Norton is better at programming security software than they are a forum.
