Threat Scan False Positive

Hello, today Norton started popping up with "Malware Detected" on this game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oddyarts.StoneOfLifeEXNative&hl=en

I've had this game installed for yonks, and don't think it's been updated recently or anything. Therefore I believe this is a false positive.

Is there no way to exclude items from future scans like I can on my desktop?

Yes apologies for duplicating the thread. Upon posting it re-directed me to the main community page, and although showed my posts in the "count" on my profile, they didn't actually show up in my post history, nor could I see them in the actual forum, so I thought it hadn't posted right.

Yes it is the "Your Device is at Risk, Malware has been detected and needs to be removed" message in the main section of NMS, (rather than the App_Advisor). Thanks for the link for reporting false positives, I'll do that now. :)

Hi Bobt36.

I think you have made two posts about the same issue.  I will respond here, if the other post you made to this forum four minutes before this one is something different in your view then say so and we will review it.

There are two ways that NMS can currently report issues with apps.  One is a report of something potentially malicious in the app (i.e. something which can do damage and is probably there with evil intent).  The other is for the App Advisor part of NMS that warns of potential usage issues such as high background data use or high battery usage.  The databases against which apps are judged should be regularly updated by NMS so if some new issue comes to light about an app then NMS may suddenly flag it up even if it has not changed for a while.

We have been noticing that the App Advisor part seems to be reporting more and more apps and this has been troubling some people as there can be confusion about the role of the two features.  The App Advisor alerts are not to warn you about dangerous evil intentions just to alert you to performance implications.

Now the question arises as to exactly which type of alert you are getting.

If the alert is from App Advisor (and you can check by going to the App Advisor part of NMS) then you can choose to "trust" the app once you have read why the warning has been issued.

On the other hand if it is a report about something NMS truly thinks is Malware (and it sounds as if it is) then you are correct in that you do not get an option to trust it, but you may continue to use it if you wish.  If on reading this message you still believe that the report is about malware and that you are sure it is a false positive then I suggest you follow this link to a post which advises you how to report a false positive

Do let us know what you decide and how you get on.

I hope that has helped.
