To lessen the chances of your Inbox ending up in quarantine you should add it to the two Scan Exclusion lists in Norton: Items to Exclude from Scans, and Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR Detection...
Just had several recent messages scrambled in my TB inbox, however, as my POP mailbox keeps all messages for about 5-6 days, easy enoght to recover. Still a pain .. so I followed your advise on scan exclusion. However, I excluded not only the Inbox but the whole Mail Folder. This becase I have some 20,000 messages in Archive Folders .. in addition to the stuff in Send. I scan only incoming mail, not outgoing. Any comments to this?
I know, at the end of the day, scanning of emails is a personal thing, sort of. But, to have NAV mess with my Thunderbird mail is a bit scare .. imo. Best, CBA
I don't think there is anything problematic in excluding the entire Mail folder, although Mozilla recommends excluding individual mail folders. I think Mozilla is actually more concerned that users not exclude their entire profile, as this actually would present a security risk, while excluding mail folders does not. Here is what Mozilla has to say:
Since Thunderbird's (and Mozilla Suite's) mailbox files are not named with a file extension like ".dbx" and thus cannot be excluded all at once based on a shared extension, they need to be excluded individually. Thus, for the Inbox you need to exclude the file named "Inbox", and the same for any other mailbox files that you want to exclude ("Sent", "Templates", etc.). It is strongly recommended that you do not exclude your entire profile folder from autoprotect: doing so would likely allow a virus inadvertently saved there to be activated, unchecked by your AV software. Consult your AV program's documentation for how to set file exclusions.

Thanks. Have to think about this as excluding the whole Mail Folder would actually offer a virus a safe home if saved there by mistake. As I have a bunch of special folders or mailbox container files 'under' the Mail Folder, maybe it's better to find/use a compromise between Mozilla's recommendation and my current setting. Best, CBA
p.s.: my compromise: I excluded the pop.xxxxxx.com folder, under the Mail Folder, where I have all my incoming, outgoing and archive emails stored. Other folders, Local Folders included, are now included in the scanning. Should be okay I think...
