360 does a pretty good job of most things but one critical feature is not working for me at all. I have it installed on my kid's computers and have enabled time tracking. There is a radio button in the time tracking settings page which says:
"Count only the amount of time CA actively uses the computer"
I have selected this option but apparently playing music in iTunes counts as "actively using" the computer. My kids like to leave their computers on at night and let music play in the background. I get repeated warnings that they're using the computers past their allowed time. And the reports showing amount of time on the computer are skewed badly. I've checked this many times and the computer is doing nothing more than playing music.
This causes me to be unable to use the time tracking feature to limit the time that the kids use their computers. This was one of the more attractive features for 360 but I can't use it. Is there any way to configure it so that playing music doesn't count against the time they are on the the computer?
What an interesting observation--I think if there isn't a way to exclude music from the tracking (while that's not exactly "not working properly"), this may be something Norton will want to address. This isn't actually a function of Norton 360, though, so there's likely to be little expertise on it here, nor the right folks from inside Symantec to maybe do something about it. I'm going to ask that your thread be moved to the Norton Online Family forum, where it can get the attention it deserves.
Since you have the option "Count only the amount of time CA actively uses the computer" selected, the Norton Online Family (Norton Safety Minder) works exactly as it was designed - sees activities on the PC and logs the child out of the PC when the time limitations have been reached.
There is a workaround you might want to try to allow the child to play music in iTunes. If you create a 2nd Windows account for the child, and blocks all web categories (or whatever you prefer), but without the time limitations setup for the child's profile online.
