My son's laptop runs Windows XP pro sp3. Installed Norton family and it says his time is expired but he can still use the computer. It doesn't log him off restrict access, nothing. Please help.
Well Its not working for me. My sons time should expire at 7pm but here it is midnight and I am sitting on his laptop without putting in a password. It did log me off the first time but when I logged back in I got an error and NF shut down. Rebooted and tried again with the same result.
Hi DarinAlvarez,
What I’ve heard is some children login again & again (after the exact 6 minutes) using the few seconds right before the program logs them out. One thing you can try is to add a password for the child’s Windows account, so when the child logs back onto the PC diligently each time, it would create more work for the child to do it every few seconds.
Thanks,
Katie
How will that prevent Norton Family from crashing on the second login?
DarinAlvarez,
You said "...logged back in I got an error and NF shut down..." Could you post the error here? Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall Norton Family on the PC to see if if makes any difference?
Thanks,
Katie
Symantec Service Framework has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Then it offers to send Microsoft an error report. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and get the same thing, loggs him off the first time and throws the error the second time.
DarinAlvarez,
Please follow the steps described in the link below to see if these help.
Thanks,
Katie
Hello,
We have been using Norton family for a couple of weeks on a PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. The blocking features worked for about a week as you describe here, but they are no longer working. For the past few days, my son is never locked out. I checked all the settings; they are as they should be.
How do I solve this problem?
Thank you.
Hi MDMom,
Besides the feature of time restrictions don't work, what about other functions in the program, like do you see the child's Web activities online at Activity -> Web?
Thanks,
Katie
My 13 Year old Grand daughter has figured out how to get around this...(and every thing else included web site blocking, etc)....I have Norton Internet Security and now have just started/bought Norton Family
She clicks on the Norton's INTERNET SECURITY ICON ....From the Internet security screen she goes to account, then goes to NORTON APPS, then goes to Norton Family and it logs in automatically (NO EMAIL OR PASSWORD REQUIRED)....she then changes the time and when she decides to get off she goes back and resets the time.......Couldn't figure out how she was doing so I had to use a hidden web cam to figure out how she was doing it and she's only 13 years old........quite the hacker or problem with SECURE ACCESS to NORTON FAMILY from Norton Account>>???????????????
I forgot to add that I have blocked both online Norton and Norton family on her computer.....She still gets around it as stated above.....
Norton check says I have the latest and greatest with all updates applied.
AND last but not least, Because she is home schooled and requires access to certain programs, she must run as an administrator

Hi panajohn2,
Please check if Norton Autofills you passwords. That could be the reason that email and password are automatically entered.
I understand child has the administrator rights. If so, the child has the ability to tamper the system even the Norton Autofill feature is off.
Thanks,
Katie
KatieQ,
Yes...it autofills ...but I can't find a way to turn it off....could you walk me thru it?
panajohn2,
What version of Norton Internet Security do you have?
Thanks,
Katie
When I do the check for updates (monthly comp maintenance) on Norton Internet Security it says I have the Latest Version .......when I manually pull it up it says....20.3.1.22 on all 3 computers which hopefully is the "latest and greatest"
System is Win 7 home premium 64 bit on mine
System is Win 7 PRO 64 bit on her desktop
System is Win 7 home premium 64 bit on her laptop
KatieQ,
Thank you for your help.
I know this is not the correct "page" to mention this but while you're at it......LOL
I just noticed there has been NO ACTIVITY for her laptop today......She's been over at her aunt's all day working with her uncle on some math...I checked and they say she's been on it (in a virtual classroom) almost all day......????????
panajohn2,
Please go to NIS -> Web Protection, then delete the card for Norton Family to see that helps.
If you have further questions about NIS, please go to the NIS forum at http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/bd-p/nis_feedback, and they can help you more with NIS.
Thanks,
Katie
