Time constraint not enforced - NF.exe crashes repeatadly

Hi,

I bought Norton Family just a couple of days agot for the time constraint feature mostly and that it could monitor several computers. It work perfectly but I have now started to se the following behaviour repeatadly and when that occurs the time constraints are not monitored or enforced.

2014-01-05 09:29 : The Norton Family service is not running. This could be caused by a problem with the program, or else a user might have shut down the Norton Family service. Please restart the computer. [LITIUM]

When I check the computer NF.exe is indeed not running and when I check the eventvwr the description says that NF.exe, version 12.11.0.16 has stopped working in WDJobs.dll_unloaded, version 0.0.0.0 (The application path says C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Family\Engine\2.9.5.20\NF.exe). The service control manager also says that it has happened four times and that it does not restart it again.

So, how do I find out whats at fault here?

I'm running Windows 8, IE10, NF 2.9.5.20.

Cheers,

Tomas

I have added the eventvwr logs related to this and also a list of runing processes at the time when NF.exe is working and all the DLL it loads if it helps in any way.

Hi,

my kids have standard windows 8 accounts with no administrative rights and no knowledge of the Norton family account or the adminsitrative account on windows. Just to make sure I have change the passwords to them again.

I have also uninstalled Norton family, restarted the machine and reinstalled it again and will give it a couple of days and see if it continues to crash.

I will report back.

Thanks,

Tomas

Hi dnulnets,

Thanks for the update.

Thanks,

Katie

Nope,

sorry it did not help at all. It still crashes in wdjobs.dll according to the eventlogs I have already added to my first post. It crashes on both machines. After it has done so three times it never tries to restart the norton family service.

So, any help to nail down the culprit would be nice. I can give you any kind of logs, lists, data check on stuff etc. or perform any tests and so on, just let me know. I'm a programmer at work so I can find my way around the system, just let me know.

I really want the time constraints to work becasue it is the major feature I'm after.

So what causes the crash? Consistently in wdjobs.dll and what do wdjobs do ?

Cheers,

Tomas

Hi dnulnets,

Can you please check to see what anti-virus product(s) and version(s) you have on the machine?

Also, do  you also use any other parental control programs?

Thanks,

Katie

I have this same problem.  The service fails at start up with this same message.

Child account with no admin perms

Windows 8

I have Norton Internet Security Installed too.

I am interested in this fix.

Hi citiboy008,

Do you get the message consistently?  If so, I'd be glad to setup a remote session with you if you are interested.

Can you please let me know what version of Norton Internet Security you have.

Thanks,

Katie

I, too, am having this problem. I've been working on it for awhile as it is intermittent. Sometimes the time is tracked , but mostly it is not. The weekly reports show a row of zeroes for the time used, when I know this certainly isn't true.

I would appreciate a remote session simply because NF looks to be running - I can access my account and change the settings, I get weekly and monthly reports,NIS is running fine on my computer and my son's.

I absolutely LOVE this product when it is working Please let me know what you can set up.

Hi nfer,

Thanks for the post.  If you are able to show this to me when it happens (when the  issue appears at the moment), please send me a private message via the forum for details.

Thanks,

Katie

What exactly are you looking for, Katie ? When my son logs on to his computer there is the popup that says this computer is monitored by NF; he says that there is sometimes a popup when he opens Chrome that says that NF isn't running, but it isn't always there.  I've only seen that in my notifications in the weekly and monthly reports.  I have uninstalled  and re-installed NF in different ways several times. I've attached the monthly report if that can be of use. His computer runs Win 8 and has NIS installed. He uses Chrome as the browser. Let me know what I need to do - Thanks !

Hi nfer,

The title of the thread says "...NF.exe crashes repeatedly...", so I assume you see Norton Family gets crashed...I was asking if you could show me the crash during a remote session, that would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Katie

I have a problem like this. NF crashes as soon as it starts repeatedly on all the kids profiles. Here is windows error report. You can remote monitor my PC.
