I can't get the time online for any of my accounts. I have checked the settings and it does kick them of when they reach the limits I set but it doesn't show any activity for any of the kids. My Norton Safety Mointor is 1.0.3.18.
I read on the forum that the time on one computer is supposed to carry over to all the other computers. So the kids shouldn't be able to jump from one machine to another and reset the clock.
Hey Norton folks, I know this is a beta version and has the potential to be a great product for our techno kids. But can you tweak the time so we can limit the online time to less then an hour? I set a 30 minute limit, outside of homework, on school days.
Thank you for your question. At this time, the behavior that you are experiencing is to be expected. Currently, OnlineFamily.Norton does not cumulatively add up the time a child spends on multiple PCs, thus it does not prevent them from exhausting their allowed time on one machine and then changing to another monitored computer. If this does happen, the child will have the same period of time to be on second computer as if they had not already done so at the first. This is something that we are aware of will will be addressing in a future release.
Is the "no activity" on the timer also a know problem or am I doing something wrong?
Beta test stuff, It should be more clear as to what needs to be installed on each computer the kids have access to. I downloaded the program on my office computer, most space available, and didn't realize I needed to setup my kids on the computer downstairs. Now it seems like a "duh, yea" thing but I only went to the web address showing the access, https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/loginStart.fs, and of course it showed the activity on my office computer but nothing from the downstairs computer. An easy fix but not clear from the original download. Fantastic product!
The Time tab within the Activity section will indeed display 'No Activity...' if the child has not either reached their allotted daily time limit or attempted to sign on during blocked hours(both configurable by the parent under Settings==>Time). In either of these events, this area would display an Alert notifying you that this has occurred.
Also, we very much appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
How is weather bug installed? I am on their website and they have all kind of types, for example vista plugin, the full desktop application, etc… What operating system are you running?
Since all 3 kids have separate login accounts and all have weatherbug running, my next question would be how are the kids logging off when they’re not using the computer?
I know that windows XP gives you the option of ‘Switch User’ or ‘Log off’. Please make sure that they choose ‘Log off’, else WeatherBug will continue running in the background and will consume their internet access time.
Thanks I’ll take a look at that. Another issue I noticed in connection with time limits is weatherbug was using time in the middle of the night which should have tripped a curfew block. I have the curfew set a 9pm on weeknights. Any thoughts? IE7 /Vista 32bit/XP Pro
We are making a change that will result in the site that the Weatherbug application reports to being ignored in the future. This means it will no longer appear in the Web Activity log. You can expect this update to be reflected on your end near the end of the weekend or early next week.
However, we are not yet entirely certain the Weatherbug issue is responsible for the 'Daily Hours limit has been reached' notification your children are receiving when logging in. We are currently performing tests that will better determine if this is the case and will keep you posted.
I have the weekday time limits set at a very liberal 2 hours. However they were getting out time warnings at there first sign in of the day. The best guess I have is Weatherbug frequently accesses the internet causing time to run even when no one is logged on. Could this be the problem? If so is there anything I can do about it besides disabling weatherbug?

I will second this even though I don't need it personally ... yet. But I can definitely see a valid time of 45 minutes, for example; and I see no programming problems in particular if you guys were to use a minute-based timer.
Especially, that it is possible for a parent to extend the limit by this increment directly from the monitored account. Probably smaller increments make little sense.
It would be also nice for child to be able to request additional time by email and for parent to be able to remotely grant one time extension.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll put it to our enhancement list. Just FYI...For now, if you want to extent the time limit remotely, you can do it under Settings -> Time. You need to change the time back if the time extension is for one day only (as it applies to multiple days), but it accomplishes what you want
I was aware of this possibility. But is is not a convenient method, it is easy to forget to revert back to a previous limit.

I believe Katie intended this only as a temporary workaround. You could try what I do in similar circumstances: Set a kitchen timer or a timer on your computer. MS Outlook has a great timer.
Yes, timer is a great invention. I use it all the time and not only to enforce the limits on internet usage
But, timer will not do the trick when I am away from the monitored computer and unable to enforce the limits.
In fact the more important part of my request was giving the kid a way to request a time extension that would be conveyed by email. Currently my children have to call me or rather ask someone to do it for them to ask me for making the change. In practice they do not do it and wait until I come home and unblock their account.
