Hi:
Using Win XP, NIS 2012, and Firefox 8.0.1 (have not updated to Firefox 9 yet). I freaked out at first when I did the Norton Toolbar update today via LiveUpdate. I did restart the computer as instructed. The list of Add-ons for Firefox 8 showed Norton Toolbar 2012.2.2.5, and Norton Vulnerability Protection 3.2. So based on that, the toolbar DID update. However, I was not seeing the toolbar anywhere in the browser--It seemed to have disappeared. So I kinda freaked out when I noticed that, but in investigating it, I first checked Norton settings and confirmed that "Browser Security" was turned on. I then checked Firefox Add-ons and confirmed the two Norton entries were Enabled.. After some puzzlement, I then checked the VIEW menu in Firefox and for toolbars, I saw there was no longer a checkmark for Norton Toolbar. So I put the checkmark there and the Toolbar returned to visibility.
So that explains why I wasn't seeing it. However, I did not make that election to hide/not view it. I'm curious how that option got switched over like that. Is there any explanation for how that can happen? The only thing I had done was install the Norton Toolbar update via liveupdate. I had not been anywhere even near the Firefox VIEW menu, and like I said, I have not yet installed Firefox 9 yet..
Furthermore, I did a little bit of surfing before noticing that the Norton Toolbar was not visible. I am wondering if my browser was still protected during that time. In other words, in Firefox if one does not have a checkmark for VIEW/TOOLBARS/Norton Toolbar, and the Toolbar is thus "hidden" or not displayed, is the Toolbar still operating? Or does the absence of the checkmark in "VIEW" actually turn off/disable Norton Toolbar? Hopefully, it was strictly cosmetic and just not being displayed, and was actually still operating, just not visible. Any thoughts?
Hi Hulym,
After running live update for FF9, Tool bar will not be hidden automatically, until we hide it manually. I have tested your scenario on one of my system to having firefox8 on the machine and ran live update to have latest patch for FF9 toolbar. I was able to see Norton tool bar after running live update and works fine too.
Even if the toolbar is in hidden mode, All the toolbar functionalities will work fine. Only thing is, you can't see the toolbar , Toolbar functionalities will not work only if you disable the addons in "addons->extension". You can check auto fill, auto acquisition functionalities after hiding the toolbar.
Hope this helps,
Thanks,
Senthil
senthilkumar, thanks for the info. I should have mentioned in my original post that the hidden toolbar episode was in a USER account. I then went to my Administrative account to check there, and the toolbar was correctly displayed in Firefox 8 on the Administor's side.. I don't know if that makes any difference, but it was only the USER account where this weird thing happened. In any case, it appears to be working normally. Thanks for the info.
