I have used laptops for so long that my first reaction was "why don't you use Airplane Mode". This must be for desktops obviously, though it was not specified anywhere. I guess 10 kilo heavy desktops don't have an "airplane mode". 
Still though. Can't you just click the icon in the taskbar and disconnect?
