I think I know what you mean. I believe these icons come with the forum format.
I allready suggested to have the opportunity to use your own icons/ avatars

I only wish I were a good graphic designer, then I could make some more icons.
These are the default icons for the site, and I don't foresee us getting new ones for the BETA.
Compared to the secure beta forum, this is luxury posting here. Heck, we even have "spell check". Almost looks like we are using MS Word to do the posting complete with emotions, bullets, HTML, etc......
It would be nice to bring this format over to our secure beta testing site....
I opted for a wizard for my avatar - I'm always some sort of wizard on public forums, so I am not complaining. 
Additionally - Personal avatars are something they are considering when the forums enters the production phase.

To all:
Take your focus off of the icons and start putting the effort into your posts. While Avatars are a vital part of bulliten boards, they do not affect the function of the forums.
The ability to upload your own avatar would be nice, although this would drag copyright issues into play.
I know I'll get flamed for posting all that, but you all have to realise that while a picture is worth a thousand words a useful contributing post is worth more.
