My home computer has been infected with the Total Security virus. I have Norton AntiVirus 2009 which didn't catch it and now won't run.
I've read the forums here & on other sites and have tried a few different things:
- I can bring Task Manager up right after login and end the process for 1229374.exe. This stops the Windows Police pop-ups, but there are still some balloon warnings about needing to protect my computer.
- I can't run Norton, MalwareBytes, or AVG. They're all installed on the computer but won't run.
- When I try to start in safe mode, it bluescreens.
- I can't connect to the internet.
I've manually deleted a Windows Police Pro folder, the 1229374 folder, and some other related files.
I'm not even sure how the virus arrived on my computer... I didn't open any email attachments or visit any unusual sites... It'd be nice to know what to watch out for so I don't do it again!
Any suggestions? If I have to do a factory reset/restore, will that virus still be lurking in the system?
Thanks in advance for any help!
