Tracking cookies removal

Tracking cookies are definiately not touched by the idle quick scan regardless of settings (I have it on "remove" on both settings).

Nope, this was reported when 2012 was released. It apparently isn't going to change. I'd rather it removed them but they must have some reason for removing this feature.

All,

I don't think we should "assume" Symantec has changed the behavior of NIS beyond the pop up message
"always" showing a scan taking place.

I just tested a tracking cookie known to have been removed with previous versions (newegg.com if you want to do your own test) and with the latest 19.5.0.145 version it was removed the same way as always (quick scan).

In some previous discussion on tracking cookie removal (and also well pointed out in this thread) there are many ways to "deal" with tracking cookies if they are a concern, at the browser level.

I am thankful Symantec has not eliminated removing tracking cookies but we must understand there are so many ways these days to "track" web viewing for advertising purposes, and I am sure those that pose a threat will be reviewed by Symantec and measures incorporated to deal with these threats.

We really need to be sure all security settings are set to "allow" a tracking cookie to be "stored" before we "assume" something is not working.

My setup is similar to the OP save the fact my OS is the pro version of windows 7 my internet options are largely default, security and privacy are set to "med high" with no other security changes that would effect cookies.

Hope this helps -- Bill

I was talking about "idle quick scan" NOT the manual one (the manual one removes the tracking cookie all right, but not the idle one).  I use the "full defs" and set all heuristic to "high."

I am now up to speed (must have been a dense day) I tested and as you have pointed out the idle scan is not finding the same tracking cookie a scan run from either right clicking the tray icon or running quick scan from the "task" window.

I now fully understand the issue, thank you for pointing me straight, I guess I could not believe the "same" scan would be different. I would not mind an answer as well on the "why" this was done.

Again sorry for my misunderstanding -- Bill
