As far as I am concerned, I confirm that the use of the VPN (integrated with Norton 360) poses random difficulties. My connection is a wired (fibre) connection.
Also, with Microsoft Edge, I must refresh the page several times in a row so that the yellow scrolling dots disappear.
Hi, this is my first time posting in here. I have been facing a lot of trouble lately. Long story short, I used to downloaded files (mp4) using chrome. But lately, these files downloaded from chrome sometimes causing ācurrent pending sector countā when I transfer (copy and paste) e.g from C: to E: (external HDD) and it happened in 2 of my desktops with different HDD, cables, mp4 files but all 3 of my new external HDD were having ācurrent pending sector countā. I suspect this was caused by Norton 360 or itās firewall but Iām not sure. Because this is the only thing that linked from both desktops which are using Norton 360 v25. Is there a possibility that the antivurus somehow messed up the file during transfer from C to E drive? The original file is not corrupted because when I copy the file to another location (another external hdd) it doesnāt causing any pending sector. Did anyone of you who are using the new Norton 360 had a similar issue like me? If this is cause by Norton, Iāll definitely switch to another antivirus. Thank you
Disable Norton and try the copy.
Youāre doing better than me. After three weeks, I have had two call backs and they left a message once. I get the impression that they are trying to frustrate me enough that Iāll just give up.
@Mitch.Green - Hi Mitch. Iāve thought about why support is outright lying about calling us. In my case anyway, Iād bet anything theyāre simply stuck. They know the problems weāre having are most likely because of the fact that Versions 24 and 25 are bug ridden, and they donāt want to simply admit it.

Just got forced updated to version 25.xx on my personal laptop that had version 22.24.8.36 installed. Right in the middle of updating Windows 11 Pro to version 24H2. I am soo pissed its not funny. Guess I should just put everything I have Norton installed onto 25.xx if I am going to be forced upgraded remotely. And yes, live updates were disabled, no smart scans had been ran.
Edited: Waiting see see if my other devices have this upgrade forced as well.

@majorbuzz Thank you for your comment. I actually thought at first that I was doing something wrong. Assuming you are right, you saved me from blaming myself for the problems Iāve been having.
I hope the company realizes that they will lose reputation and future customers as well as current customers such as me. Kind of a shame since Iāve been using their products for at least 25 years.

Same happened to my wifeās laptopā¦ We stayed with v22 with AutoUpdate disabled and updating only remotelyā¦ still Norton upgraded itself to v25 on my wifeās laptopā¦ My desktop PC though becomes intact with v22ā¦ I restored system partition with Macrium Reflect with image when v22 was on but after couple of days it happened againā¦ I made a restore again and itās been over a week now and the laptop is fine with v22ā¦ no more uncontrolled upgrading so farā¦
@SoulAsylum @Mitch.Green ā Hi guys. SA, you and I have had a great back and forth going through the previous thread about V24 through this moment. I have come to realize how you and certain others know your stuff.
What I donāt understand is why so many people think that theyāll simply outsmart Gen Digitalās plan to upgrade you to V25 whether you like it or not?
My way of thinking is this simple ā¦ Versions 24 and 25 are crap. They have been forced down our throats. We found go aroundās with certain issues like UDP (17) in security history, and maybe a small something here and there. We are only stuck with this software if you continue to pay them. We obviously know the alternative. Their support team sucks, and are a bunch of liars about how theyāve tried calling you back within their Window of 48 hours. Iāve been dealing with them and assigned a case since Oct 24 of last year and have gotten nowhere. NOWHERE! Many of us have used Norton for a couple of decades, but it simply aināt what it used to be. Iām done with my rant!

Anyway, I wouldnāt mind forcing us to a new version IF IT HAD BEEN TESTED and if it WORKS AS ADVERTISED. I have both a Windows 10 and a new Windows 11 laptops. On the old laptop, nothing has been backed up using Cloud Backup since mid October 2024. On the new laptop, I canāt get much of anything backed up. The biggest sin is that they didnāt even warn us that we have situations where we might find ourselves without data backed up. Some protection, huh?
Given that Norton 360 says it is all about protecting our data and systems, this situation is shameful, irresponsible, and unconscionable. If I had shipped a product like this when I was working, I would have been fired.

I agree with everything you said. At this point after roughly 3 updates to V24 and 25 they havenāt fixed any issues anybody has had on this thread or the previous one. Honestly, I donāt think they care, or they would have let us all revert back to V22 when all was good. I guess in the case of your cloud backup, if you were to read through 190 comments here, as well as over 500 on the V24 thread youāll see many have the same issue. For me I have several other options that will allow me to back up locally to an external drive that is unplugged immediately after because of lightning in South Florida. Then the same folders go from the external to a thumb drive on a monthly basis. Two backups in 30 minutes. If you use Windows, Iām sure you know you can back up using their onedrive cloud storage through their control panel.
Guys!! I recommend Macrium Reflect to image and backup devices. Using it forever now and no issues. Its free and updates are regular.

@majorbuzz Thanks for the suggestions! Between your suggestions and those of @SoulAsylum I should be able to find something workable. At the moment, Iām using OneDrive and am looking at IDrive and (thanks to SoulAsylum!) Iām checking out Reflect as well!

SoulAsylum has been doing nothing but helping others for the last few months. We get you are pissed at the new forced and terrible updates to Norton. We pretty much all are, but no need to take it out on others who actually are trying to help.

I was wondering if perhaps you being a forum administrator, might know if Nortonās development team is aware that there is a problem with the latest V24 and 25 updates? I myself have been in touch with level 2 telephone support for 2 months now and they havenāt done anything to try to rectify the several problems Iām having Gayathri.
We here on both threads have kind of reached the end of the line. Any info you might have would surely be appreciated. Cheers!!!

Iād be VERY much interested in any response from @Gayathri_R . I finally got a call back from Level 2 and the support rep admitted that 25.2 was problematic. However he would not cough up anything about what they were going to do about it or when.
@Mitch.Green ā Hey Mitch, level two hasnāt called me back for at least a week. I would say theyāre beyond their 48 hour window; nothing new. Well at least you got something out of the tech. Theyāve done nothing except listened to my problems, then called back 3 times for logs. None of them were interested in peeking at my security history to see what a mess it is. Cheers Amigo!

I finally gave up on Symantec ever fixing Norton 360 version 24/25.. It was hard to let it go after over 20 years of use, but I finally pulled the plug. I decided to use Windows Defender and NordVPN. Thanks for all the help from SoulAsylum, BJM, majorbuzz and everyone else. Maybe someday Iāll be able to come back to Norton.
