As my Norton 360 subscription was about to expire, I bought a new license thru EBay. The seller only sent me the Product Key, which is fine, as long as it is a legal one, and is able to properly activate the product (I have been buying software licenses this way for a long time, and never had any problems with this).
When entering the Product Key received for this new license, it was properly validated, the new subscription period was established, and properly reflected in the Subscription Status window. It is important to mention that this checking is made at the Symantec servers, so if the status shown informs that all is OK, this means the product Key is really a valid one.
Then, I clicked on Access Norton Account, to verify is this new subscription was properly reflected in my Products list. When the Sign In window opens up, it shows NOT my e-mail address, but somebody else's (the seller's).
If I enter MY correct e-mail to access my account, I can see that this new subscription is NOT reflected in my Products list, although the product is activated in my system.
Later, I contacted Customer Support who confirmed that I still have two remaining activation for this Product Key. This shows me the seller acted correctly, by selling me a 3 PC's license that was not activated somewhere else.
I understand that in this situation the product is fully functional and that I will be able to use it in my system and also to install it on the two remaining systems of mine with no problems.
However, as I BOUGHT this license, it should be TRANSFERRED TO MY ACCOUNT, both to correctly reflect the situation, but, as well, to allow me to UPDATE the product, what is only possible from within the account to which that Product Key / Serial Number is tied up (shown in the Products list).
The Licensing Agreement determines:
"During the Service Period, You may:
...
D. Permanently transfer all of Your rights in the Software granted under this License Agreement to another person or entity, provided that You retain no copies of the Software and the transferee agrees to the terms of this License Agreement."
That means Symantec recognizes and is legally bind to support the transfer or ownership of any software product subscription.
Therefore, it MUST provide ways to allow a user from having a single Product Key / Serial Number from his account to the new owner account. If this is not done, Symantec would not be respecting the Agreement, as the new owner would not have rights for product updates until that Product Key / Serial Number is included in his Products list.
So, after my apologies for the long description (needed), I would like to request your kind help by providing me with your comments, as well as, instructions, on how we (myself and the seller) should proceed to - simply - have the subject Product Key / Serial Number transferred over, from his account to mine.
Thanks in advance for your attention and support.
