Transferring settings/preferences when downgrading from Premier

I got Norton 360 Premier edition on sale a year ago and don't use the 25GB online backup. As such, I'd like to renew my subscription but downgrade to Norton 360.

Based on my understanding, I would have to buy Norton 360 (which I'm fine with) and intall that. I'm worried, however, about all my settings and preferences with Norton 360 Premier. Would they be copied over once I install the new version? Or would I have to make manual preparations to do so? Or is it even possible to copy my settings over?

Another options is my friend is considering buying Norton 360 Premier (3 users). Could I use his key to re-activate my own Norton 360 as part of the 3 users?

Hi,
I'll go for the second question first.

Yes, you can do that but;

They would both be tied to his MyNortonAccount. A degree of trust will be necessary for the arrangement to work.

Before you go uninstalling and reinstalling have a chat with customer support to see if it's absolutely necessary.

I'm thinking that the only real difference in the two versions is the amount of online storage you are allowed. If that is the case then you may be able to renew with the basic key and lose your access to the added storage. Be sure you have removed all of your files from the online storage server before you start making any changes. This holds true for your identity safe data too. Back it up!!!

Keep us posted

As the product keys for Standard and Premier are not interchangable, I think you will have to do the reinstall of a Standard version. I am not sure whether you will need to uninstall Premier first.

As Dick noted, Support will be able to answer that question for you.

I have already spoken to customer service some months ago and they said that I would HAVE to re-install in order to switch down to Norton 360 (even though the only difference is the 25GB storage). You cannot use a N360 basic key to re-activate N360 Premier without the 25GB.

I honestly don't know why they won't allow you to use a N360 basic key and just change your profile on the Norton Account. It's not a huge hassle to re-buy the program (especially as I can find it for cheaper than renewing) but it is inconvenience that I may lose all my setting and preferences. I spent several months being blocked unnecessarily from key sites when I initially installed the program. I'm afraid this will happen again.

Don't quote me on this, but you may not lose your settings. If you just try to run the installer for the basic, it may save your settings. But it would be best to prepare in case it does not.

The reason the keys are not interchangable, is they don't want people just paying for the basic version, then installing the premium.
