I hate to complicate things at the last minute but you may find that the key you got with your NAV CD may not work on the downloaded NAV 2011 since it is a System Builder Edition and intended for use by people who build computers. So if you have a problem activating the downloaded version with that key I would suggest that you uninstall the downloaded version and install the version from the CD and activate it with the KEY that came with it; and then upgrade it to the 2011 version in the usual way. I beleive that should work OK.

I'm only mentioning this now so you don't immediately dash to Customer Support and have them, who usually are extremely helpful with activation problems, tell you that from their point of view it is not a legal key!

On the question of the price for NIS being twice what you paid for your copy please note that your System Builder Edition will only licence you for use on 1 PC to the best of my knowledge wheras mose retail versions are for 3 PCs. And note that this week, like many weeks, you can buy the 3 PC version of Norton Internet Security from a certain retail chain for $19.99 after two mailin rebates although if your first Norton installation ever was the System Builder version that may not count for the upgraders rebate of $20 -- still even $39.99 is pretty good if you have more than one PC or are likely to in the next year (all licences expire on the anniversary of using the first one).

Just something to bear in mind if there's a problem .... or if you might really do better to have NIS where you get the Identity Safe module for passwords and a software firewall that are not in NAV.

Hi Hugh,

As always Customer Service has the final say but I don't think this is going to be a problem as it is still a valid product key.

The following Symantec article states:

  • System Builders shall advertise and distribute only the following versions of the System Builder Products:
    • For SMB Products – The current shipping version
    • For Consumer products – any version

  • Emphasis added by me.

Lisa, please do let us know what they say.

    Best wishes.

    Allen

Thanks for digging that out Allen.

As I said I didn't want kitysaaver to dash off to Customer Support and get a negative answer when there might be a work around.
