Trial Version Expired!?!? I have over 500 days left on NIS 2011!

That's good to know, thank you Alien. Now I wondering if  I can acquire it through Nortons as part of my existing subscription rather than buying it from Amazon. It's worth it to me if I can get it that way, but since this is just an emergency back up box, I don't see the need to buy Nortons a second time around for a computer I barely use...I would just stay with AVG and Zone Alarm. But in any event thanks for all your help and the help from others.

Moved to existing thread on same subject from same author.

Question for the community:

When I get my HP laptop back from my friend who is attempting to repair it, it will not have any Nortons files on it. I was about 63% through the Norton removal tool process when it completely shut off, and since then, in order to confirm/eliminate Nortons as part of the shut down problem, he has removed all things Norton, since we both suspected the possibility that the removal tool file might have become corrupted as a result of the shut off. So my question to you is, when I get the HP back working properly (God willing), how do I reinstall NIS 2011 through my current subscription, which still has over 500 days left? I do have my Nortons product key written down, but don't have a record of the serial number. I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

@Tim:
Thanks for removing the off topic posts from this thread.

Hi CapVid,

I hope you will get your computer back in good working order. Even though they are cleaning all of the Norton stuff off of there I would recommend downloading and running the removal tool again just in case anything is left behind which might cause problems for you.

Removal tool: http://www.norton.com/symnrt

You can then download NIS 2011 from the following link and reinstall.

http://www.norton.com/nis11

This is for the English version so please let me know if you need a different language and I'll provide an alternate link.

Install NIS and run live update repeatedly (rebooting as requested) until it reports there are no more updates.

NIS may or may not pick up your product key depending on just how much cleaning the repair shop did. If it does pick up your product key then you are all set. If not, then click on the Renew button at the bottom left of the main window.

Then enter your product key in the space provided and click on the little button just to the right of the box. If asked for your email address be sure to enter the same email address in which your product key is currently registered.

Only the product key is needed to reactivate NIS.

If you do encounter any problems in the activation process, Customer Service will be able to straighten it out for you.

Hope this helps and please let us know how it goes.

Best of luck.

Thank you very much for that response. English is fine, as I'm in the U.S. When I get my laptop back, I will follow your instructions to the letter, and will report back if I encounter any problems. From what you described, it looks like a relatively straightforward, easy process.

Thanks Again!

Larry

HI Larry,

You are most welcome. :smileyhappy:

Please do let us know how it goes even if everything works well which I believe it will. We all love to hear a happy ending. :smileyhappy:

Best of wishes.

Allen

Will do, Allen.

Hello Allen:

Just want to let you know I followed your instructions and everything is working normally again. Thank you and everyone else very much for your assistance.

Hi Larry,

I am reluctant to post this on the public forum since the version is so outdated but I was able to search around and I found a link to NIS 2006 if you are still interested. It is also not officially supported any more.

Again, you should only use this on the computer running Windows 2000 and be sure to remove any other security software with a removal tool before you install this.

Your 2011 product key "should" work to activate NIS 2006 but there is no guarantee. This is just not something which comes up often but there have been a few threads where a newer product key has been used to activate an older version - just nothing that is all the way back to *5* years old. :smileywink:

Anyway, since this is such an old version I have sent you a link to NIS 2006 via PM. Check in the upper right of your browser window for a List Private Messages symbol. You can click on this to access your message.

Best wishes.

Allen

I just want to share my personal experience - newer NIS/NAV keys does not work on 2006 versions... It would be better to buy direcly an unused copy of NIS 2006.

CapVid,

If you want to use NIS on Windows 2000 and If you already have a current NIS key from a newer version, you can try to use it on NIS 2006 (100% sure the latest one compatible with Win 2000), but If you don't have a key, don't risk to buy a new copy, because the key from the newer version may not work on the older version. So the best thing you can do is to buy a cheap unused copy of NIS 2006 (see the link that floplot has posted).
