Trojan and Java hardware

I am doing a virus scan this morning, Norton found two trojan.Gen.2 in my update/locallow/sun//java/deployment....

Im wondering if I need to do a fresh install of Java  to have a fresh start and if the virus would be still there after I clear the quarantined history? Even though Im somewhat a computer expert Im still a bit concerned that they will be on my system when I delete the history. I dont really want to do a clean install.

That and keeping java up-to-date.
That's very important.

Hello cnwfan

You can also uncheck keep temporary files on my computer which can be found on the Java control panel under temporary Internet Files. It may cause the pages to load up a little slower, but it's worth it if it's going to help keep your computer clean. Thanks.

Thanks for the replys. However I don't see the Java folder or the icon as described in the web link.  I have Windows Vista as a OS.

Hello cnwfan

Those pictures are a little old. Please go to your control panel and you should find a Java icon on the control panel. Please click the Java control panel. You should then see a section that says Temporary Internet files. In there you should see click on Settings and you should see a button that says delete. That will clear your temp files in the cache. Above that you should see a place where you can uncheck to keep temprorary files in your computer.

Also check to see that you have the latest Java version which is now version 6 update 23. Thanks.

Hi cnwfan,

If you have the Control Panel set to Category View, rather than Classic View (and it sounds like you do), open the Control Panel and click "Other Control Panel options" in the left-hand pane or possibly, "Additional Options" in VIsta.  Otherwise, switch to Classic View and you will see the Java icon.  This will bring up the Java program icon for you.

I always hate it when what your looking for is always under your nose! I have found the temp files and deleated the history. I also have unchecked the "keep temporary files on my computure". Hopefuly this will keep the nasty trojans abay. Thanks again guys and gals.

Hello cnwfan

I'm glad we could be of some help to you. If you consider your problem to be solved, can you please mark the post which gave you the solution? Then everyone will know that it has been solved. Thanks.

My other question wasn't answered but incase of the Java it is.  So part one of my question is Solved.

Hello cnwfan

You can if you want to delete the Java program you have now and then download the latest Java from the Java site. If you do that, then please remember to set up the temporary file settings to eliminate the temporary files.  As far as I know, there is no Java Hardware, Java is software. Thanks.

I think I was meaning sofware but wasn't sure,I hope that of unchecking the temp files I hope to be trojan free for a while, but with the net its never ending.
