Last Sunday night I was online ( looking up a recipe of all things, I don’t remember the site) when all of a sudden Norton alerted that there was an attempt on my computer…and then another one popped up right away. My computer froze and I am not sure if I accidentally clicked something but all of a sudden I was getting pop ups from Advanced Antivirus and Windows Police Pro. I couldn’t access task manager or pretty much any programs accept IE ( Norton was still running). I looked up as much as I could about it in between freaking out and I am pretty sure I probably didn’t do the ideal. First in order to download Malewarebytes scanner which I read was suggested numerous times for this issue- I had to be able to open up an .exe file. I downloaded an .exe fix. That worked and in between the constant pop ups from those two programs I was able to download and run as suggested Malewarebytes. It picked up and deleted some things. I restarted and everything seemed to be okay again. I ran Norton and it wasn’t picking anything up- but then again it wasn’t picking anything up while I had these two programs installed either. As soon as I thought it was fine Norton kept popping up telling me that it was blocking an intrusion from that Trojan.fakeavalert but that everything was safe. Not knowing what else to do at this point, I downloaded SuperAntispyware and ran that. Superantispyware picked up a few more things and quarantined them and once that restarted I haven’t had a pop up about blocking that intrusion again. I turned off system restore and turned it back on, so that it wouldn’t come back on every restart. I am still very uneasy over this whole situation because I have noticed when I am idle and I come back and check the Security History on Norton I see the same 11 things submitted to Community Watch. Does that mean those files are infected? I am afraid to use the computer because I am not sure how I will ever know that everything is back to good on it? Short of reformatting can anyone advise me what to do? I would appreciate it so much. Thanks
