Trojan.gen fully resolved?

A Full System Scan recently detected and if I remember correctly(nowhere near the computer) removed a trojan.gen . Though I wasn't in the room when it did this and the item is still sitting in quarantine.

I just want to know when I get back to the computer what to do or if it may just be time to get that new comp I've been looking at. This really put me in a scare and I'm clueless for the most part when it comes to computers and specifically internet security.

The computer is Windows Vista 32 bit home premium service pack1-microsoft update(rountine) service pack 2.

On it I'm running NIS 08.  This is the first time a virus has been detected on the comp and I just don't know what to do. The comp is turned off til sunday, but when I get back to it I'm assuming the troian.gen will still be in the quarantine. I did turn the comp off and boot it back up(wasn't sure what to do) and ran a another full system scan after my routine quick scan. cookie was found in quick scan, and nothing was found in the second full system scan.

Any info and advice will be helpful.

sidenote-I read somewhere and at the moment can't recall something about a video encoder? I don't remember where I saw it though and to add to my info on this, the details given in the "more details" were very limited. I didn't see a specific file or anything of that sort.
