Trojan virus detected

I'm using Norton Internet Security 5 for Mac, and a recent scan reported finding a "Trojan.Gen.2" virus, and the repair attempt failed.  This doesn't appear to have had any negative effect on my Mac, but I'm concerned about passing it on to others.  Can someone tell me how to eliminate the virus?  If it's not already patently obvious, on a scale of 1-10, my computer skills rank at about a 1 (and that's giving me the benefit of the doubt).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi foothillfrank,

Norton Internet Security for Mac quarantines the infected file automatically. The files that are in Quarantine have been removed from their original locations on the computer and are isolated. Quarantine generally means "to impose a state of enforced isolation", and this process is required for computer files that are untrusted or infected. These files are placed in the quarantine folder which is a "safe" place to store threat infected files without infecting other files on the computer. When Norton quarantines a file, it puts the file in encrypted container format so that no other application can access it, and then stores it in the Quarantine folder.

To view the Quarantined files, launch Norton Internet Security for Mac, click Tools on the Menu bar, and click the Quarantine option.

I suggest that you run LiveUpdate on your Mac until no further updates are available for your Norton product.

Regards,

Lucky

Can quarantined files be safely deleted from the computer?  I have Norton Antivirus for Mac version 12.4.1.

Hi tgdetjen,

You can delete an item from the Quarantine at any time. When you delete an item from the Quarantine, it is removed permanently. You can delete a quarantined item only if you are sure that you no longer need it.

Thanks,
