Hello lyn,
A couple of questions for you.
Is it Norton Internet Security 2008 or Norton AntiVirus 2008? Did you purchase it on a CD or by means of a download from the Symantec online store?
Are you running Windows XP or Windows Vista?
How much subscription time left on NIS 2007?
Let us know and we'll walk you right through this.
Please try to uninstall in safe mode. It that doesn't help please try the Norton Removal tool.
Please notice that this tool uninstalls every Norton ptroduct on your machine
Phil,
I have Norton Antivirus 2008. I got it on a CD. I have 7 days left on 2007.
I really did not think it would take a PhD to install it.
Thanks,Lyn
Hi lyn,
No it usually doesn't require a PhD, but each computer is unique.
Since you had trouble uninstalling 2007, you should run the Norton Removal Tool that Stu suggested. You will however loose your last 7 days of your subscription because you have a new product activation key with the NAV 2008 CD. You can wait until your subscription is closer to ending or use the Removal Tool now.
Once you run the removal tool, you should be able to install NAV 2008 without incident.
Do you have any other security software installed that could interfere with the installation process?
Even if you run the Norton Removal Tool now and then install NAV 2008, you can use the old product key for NAV 2007 to activate NAV 2008. This will give you the remaining 7 days of subscription. When it is about to expire, you can reactivate NAV 2008 (just go to the Subscription link on the bottom left of the product UI) with your new key (that came with the NAV 2008 CD), and you will have a complete year of subscription from that date.
Very good point!
Phil,
If I let the subscription run out, can I then install it? It is on the computer, sits on desk top looks pretty, but that is all it does.
So my logic says if the other one just quits working then I can intall it.
I am begining to feel really stupid.
Lyn
Phil,
I forgot to answer your question.. no there is no other security on the computer. And I really don't care about my last 7 days.. That is not that important to me. Lyn

Hi Lyn,
As sunnyc, a Symantec Employee wrote, you can install NAV 2008 right now and use your old product key, then the day before that key expires, go to the subscription link and enter your new key. Of course if you want to enter your new key now, you can do that also.
However, since you had problems uninstalling before you should use the Norton Removal Tool here that Stu recommended. This will remove all Norton Products and then you proceed with the CD installation.
Let us know how you do!
Phil,
I can't do anything until the old one is gone, correct? So I need to uninstall it and then re-install the other one? What happens at the end of time on the old one? Does it just go away as in quit working, so that I could install the other one sans message that it recognizes the first one?? Things should be much easier than this. I know you probably think I am being diffucult, and I'm sorry.
Lyn
Sunny,
Thanks for your help, but I am thinking if I just wait for the first one to quit then I could get the new one working.
Just my logic.. Tuning up a car is easier than this.
Lyn
Lyn, if your current installation of NAV 2007 is working fine and protecting your computer, you can certainly live with it for a few days more. But if NAV 2007 is not working well on your computer right now, and you need to install NAV 2008, then you could use my suggestion to salvage the remaining days on your NAV 2007 subscription.
Sunny it is working ok. The remaining days don’t matter. I just want something simple.
Phil,
I finally got it uninstalled and the new one installed.. Thanks for your help.. Lyn
Lyn,
I'm happy to hear you had success!
