Trouble with Uninstalling Norton Antivirus 2009 with AntiSpyware

Dear Gentlemen:

 

I have a problem with Norton Antivirus 2009 with AntiSpyware software which is this Norton product download updates automatically but does not apply the updates automatically.  I have Windows XP Media Center.  I have dial-up internet connection.

 

There was also a warning message that says your Norton Antivirus 2009 with AntiSpyware software is outdated and is very vulnerable to viruses and spyware by using the internet.

 

I called Symantec technical support; they told me to uninstall Norton Antivirus 2009 with AntiSpyware software by Add & Remove Programs from Control Panel. There was a message that says there will be a desktop icon for removing this Norton product a second time but there is no such desktop icon displayed on the Windows XP desktop.

Hi etow

 

Does your Norton Antivirus program have a valid license or has it expired? If your license is still valid, you could try this. It sounds like you may have something else going on with your computer if it does not apply the updates.

Please run a SysProt log for us so we can check your system for the rootkit .sys name. You will need to disable Norton auto-protect while you run the scan.

Once it is downloaded to your desktop, right click on the SysProt icon, go to properties, and click unblock and apply. (if available)

Choose log, check all the boxes except show hidden objects only and scan.

You will be able to post the log here using the "add attachments" link just below the orange post button.

After running the scan, Please do not attempt to clean anything that the log may show by yourself.
