Trustworthy programs ending up as IDP.Generic and I'm sick of it

Hi,

ever since my Norton updated itself to the newer version nothing works properly anymore.
Old, trustworthy programs are quarantined as “IDP.Generic” and I cannot restore them. It makes me sick and angry because I’ve been using these programs for years now and all of sudden they are a threat? Come on, this can’t be right.

How do I finally get rid of this? How can I make an exception? It’s apparently annoying me …

Thank you for any help

Thanks @bjm, this is what I was searching for. I was testing by disabling download intelligence. It works but is not secure.

Just happened to me! Used a program for 9 months and now reported as IDP.Generic, have managed to restore, but hope it doesn’t become an issue across the community!

Same here! Dammit! Got the Norton update last week, and now trying to fly DCS and it’s flagged it, and …\System32\cmd.exe, and several other apps as INFECTED with this IDC.Generic virus.
WTH!?

To resolve this, you can add your trusted programs to Norton’s exceptions list:

  1. Open Norton and go to Settings > Antivirus.
  2. Select Scans and Risks.
  3. Under Exclusions/Low Risks, click Configure [+] for both Items to Exclude from Scans and Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR.
  4. Add the file or program path to the exclusion list.

This should stop Norton from quarantining your trusted programs. If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Norton support for assistance.

I have the same issue with Star Trek Fleet Command game. The .exe. file was moved to quaranteen whilst I was playing because of this false positive IDP.GENERIC. Now the game won’t work. Even had Norton support remote onto my PC to add the exceptions, but it still won’t work. Been playing this game for 5 years along with 250K other players and now I can’t play it. Norton keep insisting it’s not their software that has caused this problem. I think otherwise, and will be putting in a claim for system file damage, in-game purchaces for 5 years, and Norton subscription. Needless to say, I won’t be re-newing my Norton subscription.

What T F is going on? tried to install fall guys while at a lan party this past weekend and got this error. Now trying to play delta force with my brother and now its quarantined bc of idp.generic. people make fun of me for still buying norton. guess they are right… idk why i need create a vulnerability by excluding a trusted program and if it is not trusted then why is it being advertised to the public through a trusted platform?

For those who are having continuing issue, my suggestion is revert back to version 22.24.8.36 as I have. Here is how: Thread for version 24.xx issues and suggestions - #344 by SoulAsylum

Tried rolling back to V22 and my game still won’t work. Also upgraded to Windows 11 in order to perhaps repair/replace any corrupted files and it still won’t work. Thanks to Norton they have compromised some critical files preventing this game from working.
