This may be a little basic for this forum, but I have not had any success in trying to clone a crashed hard drive that has ONLY data....no boot up app was on it.
Have a crashed hard drive that holds only data/files (I believe the partition table got fouled up).
Was advised to get Ghost and make an exact duplicate/clone of the drive prior to running any recovery programs to recover my data files.
Have Ghost 14, and a brand new destination drive which is totally clean - as Tech Support told me the new destination drive had to have "unallocated space" for which to copy to.
When using the Copying Wizard, which Options should be selected in order to insure I simply get an exact duplicate (clone) copy of the bad drive in case I need to go back to it later? Am concerned the receovery program might to something and would like comfort of a back up to start over if I need to.
Was told I needed to check -
Resize
Set Drive Active
Disable SmartSector
Ignore Bad Sectors
and
Copy MBR
As I'm only trying to clone a data drive.... is the above correct, and if not, which options should be selected?
(Am a little confused as to why I was told to copy the MBR if it's not a boot drive?)Thanks for any help.
