Can anyone help me get a better understanding of 360 backup and suggest how best to make use of a network drive for backup?
Up until recently I have been using the Windows 7 backup to backup my files to a removable drive. This seemed to work and so I saw no reason to use the backup features of Norton 360. Then I recently acquired a network drive on my home WiFi network and thought this should provide a better way of taking backups. However as Windows will not backup to network drives I decided to use the features in 360. But it now appears that features I assumed would be there, are not.
I knew that the first backup would take a long time over WiFi and was prepared for that but I assumed that subsequent backups would be incremental and I also hoped there would be the option to have versioning (i.e. multiple copies of changed files are saved allowing you to choose which one to restore). However I now find that each scheduled backup seems to do a new backup, copying all the files and folders I have selected (which takes a long time) and overwrites the previous set. This is not what I wanted and I am more than a little disappointed. I was already disappointed over the issues I had had with 360's aversion to what it deemed to be "encrypted" files but had decided I could live with that if I had to.
Can anyone advise me please? Am I doing something wrong and is there any way to get an incremental backup with Norton 360? Is there any way to get versioning from it other than manually doing lots of different full backups?
If there is no way to do incremental backups or versioning with Norton 360 can anyone suggest a relatively simple and inexpensive way of my achieving that objective?
Thanks for your time. :-)
