Tune up?

Having been very satisfied with my Norton's ability to jump on viruses and malware in general, when it came to renewal I thought I'd give 'Tune Up' a try .... wouldn't it be nice to have my computer performing like it did 18 months ago ... fast and smooth! ........... So I paid the extra for this service and duly booked my slot ..... At approx 6.15pm this evening .. (It's now 11.40pm) I commenced allowing a remote 'techy' in India to access my computer...... He was difficult to understand (accent wise) and the line was awful. ......I specifically asked if my Passwords and Firefox bookmarks .... (loads of them for a project I've been researching for 6 months) ... would still be intact afterwards ...."Of course sir" .... was the reply. Well, I sat transfixed for nearly an hour watching him remotely change this, and alter that, all at lightning speed ..... very impressive! ....... Except for the fact that when he finished the session I could no longer log on to the net .... and he had disappeared! .....Session over! .......... So ..... I went through the whole process with Symantec Tech dept again .... with a different guy this time and he talked me through this procedure ..... and that procedure ..... and I clicked this ... and clicked that all under his instruction over the phone ..... the result ........still couldn't access the net!  ...... So he said I needed to 'System Restore' ..... which he talked me through ...... said it would take about an hour and he would call me back ...... It's now 11.50pm .... no call ! ...... So ..... with System Restore completed I fired up my machine ..... only to discover all my settings .... passwords .... and precious Firefox bookmarks have been erased!!!!! AAAAARRRGGGHHHHH!! ...... This is not at all what I expected from Symantec, the people I trust to keep me safe on the net!................ In fact the (non)service was abysmal ..... Anyone else suffered this nonsense?
