My teenagers accept the fact that we will montitor their internet use but they are embarrased by the "Puppy" animation that comes on screen each time they log into their computers. (Can't say I blame them.) Is there a way to disable this animation? Note: I do not want to disable Safet Minder. Just the animation. THX
Hi JohnTwo,
If you do not want the Norton Online Family notifications to be displayed, you can select the option Monitor only (All Web blocking turned off) in Web settings for your kid's profile.
Note that, by selecting this option you can only monitor the Web activity of your kid. You cannot block Web sites.
Hi Vinchants,
I think you didn't get the point, Johntwo wants to get rid of the animations, not to disable the protection or to put it in monitoring mode only. His kids just don't want to see the dog each time they login.
Am I rignt Johntwo?
Cheers,
Kunta
I got the point. I think you cannot disable only the animation. The animated notification will not appear only if you have the option Monitor only (All Web blocking turned off) enabled.
Kunta.
You are right. My hope would be to have the blocking in place but without the animation. Does not sound like possible though. Unfortunate because I think the Safety Minder may be more useful to some parents if it was more teen friendly.
Hi JohnTwo,
I'll add it to the product enhancement list for the management team to consider.
Thanks,
Katie
Thank you! That would be a wonderfull upgrade .
Can we do any thing in windows to disable the icon on the left bottom corner ??? Is that possile ??
Hide the Norton Safety Minder icon in System Tray
1
On the Windows taskbar, right-click and then click Properties.
2
Do one of the following depending on your version of Windows:
For Windows Vista: On the Notification Area tab, next to Hide Inactive icon checkbox, click Customize.
For Windows XP: On the Taskbar tab, next to Hide Inactive icon checkbox, click Customize.
3
Under Current items, select Norton Safety Minder, and then select Hide or Always Hide from the drop-down menu next to it.
4
Click OK.
5
Click Apply > OK.
Thank you Katie.
Yes I have a similar question... Hopefully you can answer... I just installed this on my windows computers but now I need to install the Mac version on my kids Mac... Will they have any way of knowing that Norton is monitoring their computer and if so is their a way to hide it?
Hi ticosuave,
The product doesn't use a "stealth" mode and monitor in secret. It was designed to encourage discussions between parents and kids.
Like user "Sudheesh" mentioned, you can hide the Norton Safety Minder icon in System Tray, but the steps Sudheesh showed do not disable the Norton Safety Minder pop-up notifications.
Thanks,
Katie
