Two Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool being offered

On my PC, the Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool is being offered twice.  Once with the normal update and another time when I check updates AFTER the reboot.

Hi Dave I have had that happen to but I kind of cured it by downloading the new and old  versions on my computer  and run the old one first just before I run windows update manually and that usually keeps windows updater from downloading the old version before  but today I did not have the problem as I download the full download from majorgeeks.Com as Tim there usually has the new full download available(19.9MB) on his site on early patch Tuesday so I have both the old and the new versions on my computer or you can go to the Microsoft download center and download it from there later in the day after the updates have been released NOTE THERE IS 2 VERSIONS 32BIT AND 64BIT

It doesn't offer it to me anymore, just the twice.  Maybe it's a one off glitch from Microsoft side.  Did you see the same problem?

Hi Dave,

I had the same thing on my two systems.  Must of been a Microsoft bug.

Cheers.

Hi Dave and Krusty I did have the problem after I ran windows update manually and at first it did not have the update for the

Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool as I had both the June and July  versions on my desktop then after I restarted my computer after downloaded the updates it did not at that time have any more updates but later yesterday I ran Microsoft windows update again and found that it offered the download for the  tool again and I fixed that when I ran the tool from the desktop icon that I download from either majorgeeks or from the Microsoft download center and ran windows update manually again and the download for the Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool was no longer there  that is the way that I get rid of the update from the Microsoft update.. Ok I know this is closed but rather than post the same issue, is it better to just add here?
Anyway, I too show two versions of the July 2013 Microsoft malicious software removal tool

I already ran the July version on patch Tuesday. I show that it was successfully run. However I just checked today and I see another download for malicious software removal tool for July. Only it is not showing as important.
So do I need to run it? Hide it?

I’ll post as a separate question as this thread is marked solved

Just as major updates to Norton products are rolled out in controlled, limited releases in order to keep any unforeseen problem from affecting a large number of users, Microsoft is following a similar approach in its release of a new version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool.  If you got your Microsoft updates automatically this month, you would have gotten the old MSRT.  If you checked for updates manually, you would have gotten the new version.  If you downloaded and installed via automatic update and then checked again for more updates, you would have gotten both.
