Two NSS Icons in System Tray

I am running Norton Security Suite (Version 21.1.0.18 fully patched) from Comcast on three PCs. One PC runs Windows 8.1 and two run Windows 7 (SP1).

 

One of the two Windows 7 PCs has the annoying problem of showing two NSS icons in the System Tray. Please see the attached screen capture (note that it is a PNG file but I had to rename it to get the forum to accept the upload -- rename it to a PNG to view). This started a couple of weeks ago.

 

I have noted that others on here have had the same problem and that it is usually cleared up by rebooting or removing/reinstalling. Neither of those solutions has worked for me.

 

I have tried rebooting several times and today I did a complete uninstall, then reboot, followed by the Norton Removal Tool. Another reboot and I then reinstalled a fresh copy of NSS downloaded from Comcast. The two icon situation seemed to be solved until one of the last patches was applied to NSS, then it came back.

 

I would sure appreciate some help on how to keep this from occurring. It is very frustrating to have those two icons in the tray.

PS I just tried running Support -> Support from within NSS and it reported that it fixed "1 item." I rebooted but still no joy - two icons are still staring me in the face, laughing.

Thanks for the suggestion of hiding the second icon. "Out of sight, out of mind."
