Un-able to Sign In when Upgraded to Windows Live Messenger 14

Hi, All,

Just had a hassle installing the W.L.M. 14; when I did get it installed and tried to Sign In, it informed me that the Service was "un-avaiable" and I was to try again later.  This has been happening for the past week now, so I know there is no problem with the Service, so it must be an issue with Windows Live Messenger (W.L.M.) 14.  I tried the Help Files, but they did not Solve this Issue; anyone have any ideas on how to Solve this, I would be so greatful.  Thanks.

Windows X.P.; Service Pack 3.

Hi, lot,

yes, am using the correct Username and Password.

If anyone knows how to Fix this, or has any suggestions, please do let me know.

Hi Red

I remember having an issue logging into messenger for a while. There was another program that was interfering with it. It wasn't a program that I downloaded, but I think it was part of another program. I remember I had to disable it and then I could log in again until the next reboot. I'm trying to remember what it was. I think it was the Nvidia firewall that came with a vid card driver perhaps? I think my son had to uninstall that Nvidia firewall since I didn't want it or need it to start with.Take a look at this. Perhaps this will help you.

Hi Red,
do you get any error number? If no, can you check your system date? Sometimes it can cause errors too, if you change the date for something, eg. run a trial again, and then you forget to change the time back, and now WLM just keep telling you errors…
Let us know the results.

Hi, floplot,

Thank-you for the information and the Web Link; am going to try something else first to see if that works, and then I'll look in to your suggestion.  Thank-you.

Hi, PapauZ,

I haven't changed the System Date; I do get Error 80040154.  If you can help, please do...

And thanks for your Reply.

This may be worth looking at if you haven't done so already

If this do not help, on a wlm forum I found that this file could do the trick:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/F/4/0F4D43A7-8D47-4312-BC35-EC1F888AC156/en/Contacts-ship-neutral.cab

EDIT: By me the MS link did not worked, so I checked some sites for it, and found this:

Hi, PapauZ,

Are you sure that Download is Safe?

Hi, PapauZ,

Are you sure that Download is Safe?

I downloaded it, and norton didn't say anything... But the best after the download to run it through a scan.

Now I found this too: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.live.messenger&tid=8330155b-28cd-4647-b56c-6e6ca7d551d4&cat=&lang=&cr=&sloc=&p=1

This didn't work; if any one else has any other suggestions on how to Fix this, please do let me know.  Thank-you.

Hi Red

Are you still having problems with MSN messenger?

Hi, flop,

Yes, I sure am.  Again, if anyone has suggestions, please do let me know.  If I had one wish for Christmas...

Hi Red

I don't know if this is one of the suggestions that you tried already or not. Did you pick the right options when you picked out MSN Live Messenger? I know they give you several options to pick from. Maybe this link has some clues for you. I just hope it not related to that other problem you had a while back.

Hi, floplot,

Thanks for the Web Link.  This looks like something I already tried, but this also has other information in the Web Link I was reading from, so I'll have a shot at this.

What is the version number of your WLM? The latest version is v14.0.8089.726. If yours is not this one, you should upgrade to it.

Hi Red

Can you sign in if you disable your firewall for a short time? Someone in the NAV/NIS section is complaining about the same thing now.

Hi Red

Please check out this link in the Forum

Hi Floating_Red

There's been a lot of suggestions here, so I don't know if you have cured the problem.

Just a few small ideas, which you have most likely already tried.

1   Have you tried logging on in   'Safe Mode with Networking', to prevent other progs. causing a problem.

2   Have you uninstalled and reinstalled.

3   You could try installing the 'Messenger Plus ! Live' Add-on, to see if this stirs anything up.

The only other repair jobs I can think of at moment are listed in Links above from others.

Floating_Red

I believe you're using Win XP and have most likely done this.

You could go to 'Add or Remove Program', right click 'Windows Live Essentiols',  click the 'Change/Remove'  button.

A popup Window should give you the options  'Uninstall'  or 'Repair'.

Select 'Repair' and it should repair all your installed 'Windows Live Programs'.

You most likely need to be networked for this.( not sure)

Just tried this on XP sp3 with NIS 2010

Had to do a manual reboot when finished, but it kept all my log-ins and preferences.

I have also got 'Microsoft Updates' enabled, which include i believe, ' Live' updates.
