Unable to access internet through browser after upgrading norton family

I received an automatic update of Norton Family (2.6.0.43) on my Windows 7 PC and since the involuntary re-boot i have not been able to access the internet through my browser to do anything.    I tried to uninstall, and initially it just hung on the id/password screen.  I disconnected from the network and now it hangs on  "preparing to disconnect.".  I realize that there are a lot of other posts reporting problems with Norton family...not sure if this is all the same issue or if I have an undetected virus (i did a full norton virus scan and it came back clean).    Are there manual instruction on uninstalling this product so I can use my computer again?

I read through a bunch of posts but i am unsure if it is all the same problem.
