Unable to Activate my Norton-Product

Hello Volksgrenadier,

Sorry for the issues you have experienced activating your Norton product. This should have worked the first time, and we apologize for these hiccups.

Have you tried using the web activation? Web activation (activating through your browser) will launch after your product activation has failed after a few attempts. You would have to keep "retrying" when the activation is unable to connect to the server, and it'll eventually launch your browser and try a different method.

I'm sorry if you've already tried this. When I read through the thread I didn't see a mention of this.

Let me know if this helps!

After a VERY LONG (8+ hours) scan it did find 2 virusses, which I removed.

I restarted thecomputer and retried the activation, but it still didnt work.

I thank your suggestion though.

Regards,

Volks

Quads

@ Tim_Lopez

The excuse from you on behalf of Norton will not be accepted untill this problem has been solved.

Nope web activation did not pop up after repeatedly trying to activate the Norton Product.

I have been repeatedly clicking on the "next" button in the activation not completed interface for 2 full minutes, which brings us, if we assume a clicking rate of 4 clicks per second, to a total repeated clicks of 480 if I am not mistaken.

And no launch of the Webactivation so far.

Is there any way to manually start the webactivation?

Is there a minimum amount of repeated activation attampt higher then 480 before this webactivation should have been started automatically?

No need to be sorry for this suggestion, I truly appreciate all of them (upto a certain level of course;) )

I have not mensioned it so your assumptions where firmly grounded.

Volks

First:

That previous message was not directed to your reply it wa directed to delphinium reply.

But since this forum does not indicate to which previous post you are replieing I have started to indicate it manually by adding @ name above my replies.

Secondly:

As for what program I used to scan my computer I refer to Floating_Re's earlier post in which I adviced me to do this.

The program in question is: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

I used it after restarting the computer in safe mode.

Can I be of any further assistance?

Regards,

Volks

I know -- it's a PITA when you are used to being able to address messages! Good idea to include the name or quote a part of the message.

Have you tried the Threaded View option you can set up in Board Options or in your Profile -- that at least helps you! If only everyone used it too!

Hi

You could try, Making sure Malwarebytes is up to date and run a full scan in Normal mode.

The other program is SuperAntispyware Free, Install, Update definitions and do a full scan.

The other program used to help is Hijackthis when helping people remove infections.

If that doesn't work as other have found they have the TDDS/Seneka family of infections causing problems then try this proceedure for that family http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=23740

There has been new file names since the creation of that post in the Non Plug N play devices. Also include files "TDSS*********.sys" and "seneka**************.sys" [********** = random characters]

Sdfix for XP,   It creates a log after.

There is another thread I am working though, and slowly the PC is starting to be as it should, Now even Norton will detect properly etc.

What was the names given by Malwarebytes for the 2 viruses it found.

"Threaded View option you can set up in Board Options or in your Profile"

First:

because the evaluation period has ended and the product has not been activated so far, I am unable to acces Norton Internet Seccurity itself. Norton System Works, works fine for as far as I can see.

Second:

The Norton interfaces all are written in my native language, so I have to translate it myself.

This does not cause any major problems, but it can cause me to ask "dumb basic"questions.

Like, are those options in Norton System Works or in NIS. If it is the latter then the First point comes into view.

@ Quads

First:

I would like you to consider the amount of time needed to perform the initial Full scan.

And considering it is night time I am not going to scan again at this point.

Secondly:

I did notice the Norton Support worker look at my hardware and I could see all Non Plug N play devices.

So I assume he  checked that.

I did not now what he was looking for, where he was exactly nor do I know if he did anything there.

So my first assumption may be wrong.

Third:

The names of the malware:

(Adware.MyWebSearch)

\vtl-bf2k.exe (Trojan.Agent)

Does that tell you enough?

Both have been indicated to be completely removed by the program though.

Tomorow I will look into your suggestions, but for now I wont untill I got some sleep ;)

Regards,

Volks

Good night you all.

Thanks for the help and or future help.

Keep the suggestions comming, I'll read them tomorow.

Regards,

Volks

vtl-bf2k.exe  = Battlefield 2 crack/keygen

Oh you may have to turn off system restore to.

Till next time

I'm sorry if you are having a language problem but that has nothing to do with my message about Threaded Format since that is here in this Forum, not in a Norton Product.

@ Volks

have u tried my method using freegate??

Hello Volksgrenadier,

Sorry - I think I may have mis-communicated my post. You don't need to keep clicking the "next" button over and over while it is trying to activate. This is what you need to do:

1) Try to activate - it will Fail

2) Retry Activation - it will fail

3) Retry Activation - it will fail again

If you repeat steps 2 and 3 - it will pop-up web activation eventually (no more than 10 failures later).

Let me know if this helps.

I had trouble activating my Norton anitvirus 2009 and came to this forum and tried everything that was mentioned.  I have absolutely NO knowledge of computers, but if what I did helps you, then I want to at least mention it.

I have Norton Security Center which contains a COMODO Firewall.  I thought that when trying to activate my antivirus software, and getting the "cannot connect to the Symantec Server" error, that my Windows Firewall was the problem.  I disabled that and tried again, with no luck.  So I enabled it again and tried everything mentioned here.  Then I remembered the COMODO firewall, and opened it up this morning, and sure enough it was the firewall that was blocking the file.  I clicked "allow" and had absolutely NO problem activating soon after.  Im not sure if you have another firewall other than whats in Window's security center.  If you do, you might open it and check (if you havent already figured that out).  If you dont have another, or have thought of it, then I apologize for this wasted information, I just don't remember reading about that.

Hope you get it resolved, and as for their technical support, LOL, they sucked with any help for me.

Linds

For the record I dont know if my sister puched the solved button, but the problem is not yet solved.

So I am still welcoming all help.

If she did -- and only the original poster can -- then she has the facility to remove the solved flag. Culd you ask her to do so if it istill unsolved?

Thanks.
