Unable to Activate Subscription on Windows 8 PC

Hi,

I resubscribed for 1 year on 15-Jan-13 on my Vista machine and all is perfect there.

My Oder No  [Removed]

I understood that this subscription could be applied to 3 pc's.

This is a new Windows 8 pc.

The trial Norton Antivirus has now expired and I seem unable to incorporate my subscription onto this pc as the second of the 3 pcs I understood I could be covered with my subscription.

When I view the details of the order on this pc there appears to be no facility ot download or install the product on this pc.

Please advise how I should proceed.

Many thanks.

Peter Moran

Hi pmor1945,

Can you tell us which Norton Product the trial was and also which Norton Product you renewed on your Vista?

The normal procdure would be to remove the trial and run the Norton removal tool (if different from the product you renewed) and then you could go to www.nortonaccount.com on the Win 8 system, log in and locate the yellow download button for the product you renewed  and click on it - that will download, install and activate the renewed product on that system.  You'll need to export your ID safe data prior to doing anything with the trial removal and also run livepdate(rebooting when requested) until it responds"no updates found".

More in depth instructions can be provided - if you tell us which Norton Product you are using.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Here are the details of the products we are using:

1. Norton AntiVirus on Windows Vista machine - subscription renewed 15/1/13.

2. On new ThinkPad with Windows 8 trial version of Norton Internet Security.

I hope this is sufficient detail.

Yank's advice should be followed to remove the trial from the new computer using the Norton Removal Tool. Then download and install from your Norton Account. Detailed instructions are below.

Download the Norton Removal Tool from here   www.norton.com/nrt
Uninstall your Norton product with Windows control panel.
Reboot.
Run the Norton Removal Tool.
Reboot.
Log into your Norton Account from here   www.account.norton.com
Click on the Download button beside your current product subscription. This will download and install a preactivated copy of your product.
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi,

Have followed your advice and removed Norton from this Windows 8 PC.

Then rebooted.

Then used Norton Removal to remove all evidence of Norton.

Then rebooted.

Went to my Norton Account which shows two expired entries:

- the Norton Trial for this PC which has expired,

 - Norton AntiVirus dated 2006 showing as expiered.

The Norton AntiVirus subscription dated 15/Jan/13 for 1 year and 3 machines does not appear.

Then viewing Order History my recent order of 15/1/13 for my Vista machine is there but that screen does not have download facilities.

Thanks again for your assistance and hoping this can assist in resolving my problem.

Is your Norton Anti Virus a 1 PC version? If so, you will not be able to install on the second computer. You will have to purchase another subscription.

If you wish to get a 3 PC version of Norton Internet Security, you should be able to contact Support and they can refund your NAV subscription and sell you the NIS subscription.

You will find Support chat at   www.norton.com/chat

Let us know how you make out.

Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Internet Security are 2 different products and the keys are not interchangeable.

Thats why it originally did not work.

The confusing part is that NIS is usually a 3 system key and NAV is usually only 1.

Go to your vista system and verify it really is NAV (Norton Anti-Virus)  then open the product and click "account" or support > account.   (I'm using an older version it may be different in getting to the norton account).

When the product opens the page for the norton account, the email address used is usually displayed.

Verify that is the same account you been accessing through the webpage.

It's possible that new key wasn't connected to a Norton account yet, it may prompt you to sign in and then it shows up in your account.

If you still have problems let us know if your sure it should be Norton Anti-Virus and we will give you a download link for it.

Have you just purchased the NAV subscription and not yet activated it by entering the product key?

When you enter the key it should show up in your Norton Account.

Hi,

Thanks to all who replied to assist with my problem.

I used chat to communicate with Norton and the problem took about 5 min to resolve.

Mud on my face! Bought the wrong product!!

Norton have looked after me very well for the second time!

Anyone remember Norton Commander - a brilliant DOS product?

Thanks again.
