Unable to connect to server for updates

Even though it is called "Norton AntiVirus", it does contain a In-bound-only Firewall, which could be the problem.

Could you confirm how long you have had this problem?  How did things run before this problem started, e.g. did you have any problems regarding to this problem or did things run normally?

I have had this problem for around 1 month, computer ran okay prior to this issue

Have you installed any programs within the last month?  If so, what have you installed?

How long have you had Norton AntiVirus installed for?

I have not installed any new programs lately, and I have used norton for years. I did upgrade norton to the 2008 version this year, but I cannot remember when

Please follow the instructions on this Web Page: How to re-install LiveUpdate.

Let me know if this solves your problem.

If you ever need to know there are two ways: if you made a Norton Account when installing then the KEY is in there and it gives the expiry date of your subscription --subtract 12 months and that should be the installation date although if you have a 3 user version all subscriptions expire on the same date, the date of the first installation.

Or on the Home Page, bottom left in white on black is Subscription -- if you click on that it tells you when your subscription expires so you can work back from that.

FWIW

I would be inclined not to take any drastic action like reinstalling LiveUpdate while Tony Weiss the Norton Staffer -- names in red -- is asking you for information or you may shortcircuit his game plan! <s>

It may be a good idea to update to the latest version of Norton AntiVirus. Select this link for the latest update of Norton AntiVirus.

I would also recommend that you follow the steps listed in the How To Troubleshoot a Suspected Malware Infection announcement, as this might possibly be an infection on your system. Thanks!

What Security Product are you using?

What is you O.S.?

Download Virus Definitions from this Web Link and then do a Full System Scan in Safe Mode (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html); make sure all boxes are checked in the Manual Scanning section of your Security Product, which can be found in the Security Product Options.

If you still get the Error after doing this and no Viruses, Spyware or Other Threats were Detected and Removed, Post back here.
