Welcome to the party. The portal has been down for at least 2 days now -

Do norton support responded?

This is totally frustrating.  All the accounts under Norton Family have slow to no internet access.  This is going on for more than 2 days.

I can't disable Norton Family or uninstall it.

Very bad service!

Hi,

I bought Norton Internet Security and was told that the parental control software is built in.  But later found that the Internet Security does not have parental control and needs to be done through Norton Family.  When I tried to login into Norton Family, got the below error and is happening even today:

you can uninstall it by two methods,

Method 1- Get Your uninstaller www.ursoftware.com/ then boot windows in "Safe Mode" and this program will do the rest.

Method -2 Boot windows in  "Safe Mode" the manually delete the installation folder then try windows unimstaller it will do the rest.

Am I to understand that I will be unable to uninstall this application from my machines until Norton fixes the problem?  They are taking control of our computers without relinquishing it to the administrator of the device?  If this is true, I think we should look into the possibility of a class-action lawsuit.

This same problem has been going on for me since the 20th (70 HOURS of outage???  not confidence-inspiring from a network security and computer utilities software company!).  I would love to hear from other users: to what family monitoring application will you be switching?  Apparently, Norton doesn't have anyone working this week because "working on the problem" just doesn't cut it after three days.

Do you know of any companies with reliable uptime?  I cannot keep my kids off the computer for the whole Thanksgiving holiday weekend (5 days) but I must because Norton is not blocking anything right now.  In our family we have Android, Windows and Mac.  Any suggestions for good competitive products would be very much apprciated.

Also, how successful have any of you been in getting a refund for Norton when then cannot deliver the service as promised when you signed up AND PAID???  First I went through lots of crap because while this product technically works on my version of Mac OSX and technically works with my version of Safari, apparently they failed to mention (when I signed up and paid) that it doesn't work with my particular COMBINATION of OSX and Safari.  Silly me, not thinking to ask that...

Hi cseel,

You said "Am I to understand that I will be unable to uninstall this application from my machines until Norton fixes the problem?"

No.  You can uninstall the program by following the steps below.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks,

Wow - you comment on that but not the outage thats affecting everyone. Nice job.

We finally got a response :

This is what I got out of her message:

  • They found the root cause of the problem (Hooray!)
  • A fix is being tested (please work!)
  • There are multiple patches involved that should take less than a week to push out. (Hmmm, sounds like something got really corrupted!)
  • Symantec is not sorry about this disaster and wants you to be patient (Please dont sue!)
  • Continue to use this forum to complain about how clueless we are, or how bad the product is (It keeps Yvonne employed) :-)

I have uninstalled Norton Safety Minder and not waiting for any update. Now I found a new free parental control software which works great in all windows (XP,7,8) see link below,
