Unable to ping b/w machines with N360 installed - linksys router

Norton 360 is installed on 2 machines (one XP and one Vista) connected through a linksys router. Each can ping the router, but not each other. After turning off all the "blocked" items under the smart firewall, the XP machine could ping the Vista machine, but the Vista machine was still unable to ping the XP machine. I would like to disable the firewall to see if ping will work but don't know how to do that.

The ultimate goal is to get the XP machine to be able to access the hard drive and printer on the Vista machine, but I can't fight that battle until I can get the 2 machines talking. I would sure appreciate any help from those who know what I might be doing wrong. Thanks.

Hi egertz,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Let us know the version of Norton 360 you use- you can find it from Help & Support > About. Check the Network Security Map in Norton 360 and change the access for the other computer to Trusted.

Yogesh

Yogesh, thanks for the welcome. I think the release is either 2 or 3. It's a friend's computer and I don't have access to it now. I also defined the computers as trusted to each other, but I'll have to check to see if I did that where you're telling me to.

According to About, the version is 16.5.0.135

Hi Eric,

I think, it is Norton Internet Security 2009 (version 16.5.0.135) and not Norton 360. Try the instructions mentioned in the below Support Article to configure Network Security Map in NIS 2009:

Yogesh,

Next time I'm there, I'll give this a try. Thanks for your help. I do appreciate it.

Eric

Yogesh, you are correct, the software is Norton Internet Security. But the problem was not Norton. The machine has VPN software

on it that is causing the problem. Once I disabled the VPN software, the machines were able to talk to each other. Thanks. Eric
