Unable to uninstall NIS 09, full system scans up to 5000 files only

Hi all,

My parents' computer had been hit with exactly thirty threats (adwares to spywares to trojans!!) (they're not too updated with the internet world = popups). I was able to clean it by using Malwarebytes (Norton did not alert for any of this except for two). Continuing, still now, Norton keeps popping up these errors message; something about SONAR (sp?) and more. I am trying to do a full scan of the computer, but it stops at around 5100 files and it says complete. Plus, one moment my auto-protect is off, the next is about the firewall or advanced-protection-something being disabled, etc.  I cannot even open up the "settings" page to customize the settings or anything.

I want to uninstall this product and reinstall it, but I tried the Control Panel > Add/Remove, the Uninstaller from the Norton folder, and the Norton Removal Tool. Didn't work. It just stayed on the screen about identifying Norton products, etc and stuck there. I left it on for a good three hours and not an inch. Then the computer just froze up and I would hold down the power button to force-shut the computer down.

Can someone please help me how to remove it? Thanks for any valuable info.

Best,

Lily
