Unable to Update to NIS 2012

I'm a fairly seasoned user, but I am having fits upgrading to NIS 2012 on my Windows 7 Home Premium machine - it just won't let me do it.

Computer info:  HP Envy 17 Laptop, Intel i-7, 8GB RAM; running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (all updates current); NIS 2011 (up to date); IE 9 (both 32 bit and 64 bit); Google Chrome.

Funny thing is I upgraded to NIS 2012 on my two WinXP systems at home without any problems.  Then I tried it on my Win7 laptop.  IE 9 freezes, and I get the message "Internet Explorer has Stopped Working."  (I tried this with the 32-bit version of IE)

I downloaded and tried going through the Update Center using Google Chrome.  I got past downloading and running the "Autodetectpkg" file (which is further than I got with IE9), but when I tried the "Start download" button, I got the same lockup with Google Chrome.

Here's what I tried - (1) resetting my browser to its defaults; (2) turning off UAC completely; temporarily disabling my NIS Firewall.  And I'm not getting anywhere.

I realize this is most probably a Windows or IE9 issue, but I'm not having any luck finding any solutions on Microsoft's website (that or I'm looking in the wrong place).

Is anyone having this same problem?  And more importantly, does anyone have a solution?

Regards,

Kelly
