I have been unable to use Pidgin instant message to loggin to my gmail account, as the encrypted authentication option is disabled. Does anyone know a way around this. I don’t want to teach my family to send passwords accross the internet in the clear.
A few questions so we are clear on what you are doing:
1) you are using a googletalk account right?
2) is this a monitored account (is this the child account you are trying this from?)
3) if it's a monitored account, do you have IM monitoring turned on?
Matt
1) Yes, using a googletalk account
2) Yes, using my son's "limited" account. (Background I've set him up on Pidgen so he can talk to me when I am travelling. So I would like him to use IM but wish to monitor it.)
3) Yes, I have IM monitoring turned on.
I will jump on his PC, do some more testing, and confirm it is still not working.
Hi
I am having the same issue with Pidgin. I am using a Google Talk account. I don't have chat supervision enabled on the account that is being monitored. In the end I just installed the native Google Talk client and use that now instead of Pidgin. Not really a solution but there is no way I am not using secure authentication.
