Since renewing my subscription to NIS, I have been unable to use Microsoft Word due to an error message. Word will not open because it is "Unable to verify license." Word is a legitimate copy and I have the product code.
My version of NIS is for 3 PCs. How do I avoid the same problem when updating my subscription for my other 2 PCs?

I am using Windows 7, Microsoft Office Professional 2010, and the most current Norton Internet Security (NIS). NIS was purchased November 2013 from Staples. I can't find a version number for NIS anywhere. It just states "For Staples" on the CD and "Windows 7" is on the box.
The problem with all MS Office applications on this PC (#1) began after I renewed my subscription with NIS. Windows 7 was updated 7 days prior to the day MS Office stopped working. Also, I stopped all Windows updates for about 2 wks while I was trying to make MS Office work. All other software on this PC (#1) is working fine.
I have tried several things to make MS Office work but nothing seems to correct the error. This includes rebooting the PC several times, uninstalling/re-installing MS Office Professional, and uninstalling/re-installing NIS.
The version of MS Office I am using is licensed for 2 PCs and it works fine on my other PC (#2). I have not renewed my subscription for NIS on the #2 PC until I can pinpoint the reason for the problem with the other PC (#1). At this time, I am not confident that MS Word on PC #2 will work fine after NIS is updated. I'm nervous keeping PC#2 unprotected but I really need at least 1 copy of MS Office working right now.
I appreciate any additional help you can offer. Thank you!
Click the start button and in the search bar type services.msc and then OK
Look to see if you have a service called "Office software protection platform".
If you have it, it should be running. Stop the service, wait a minute and restart it and verify it is on.
If your sure it's on, go into the control panel and open "program and features" select Office professional and click "Change"
(don't click uninstall)
The box that pops up should give you an option to re-enter your product key, use that option to reactivate.
That license service was added in SP1 so you may not have it or it may be broken from uninstalling Office and reinstalling it without the service pack.
