I have spent hours trying to verify my website as my own with norton's so that i can have the green tick on my website, i have uploaded the authentification file to my root folder, but when i try to verify ownership of the website i just get the same message despite trying it several times. The message is Web site ownership verification failed. Copy the auth file to the root directory of your Web site or copy the meta_tag into your Web site's home page. It is of a high priority to me get the green tick on my website so i would greatly appreciate some help.
I can see that you have added the meta tag to your home page. Only you can see the file added to the Root Directory so let's proceed with the meta tag method.
• Please remove the nortonsw HTML file from your Root Directory.
• The are two issues with your meta tag:
1) If you check your source code, you will see the the norton meta tag is outside of the <head> element. Please move it so that it is located between <head> and </head>.
2) There is a space at the end of your authentication code. Currently it looks like this:
...6mgghwp8bsd" />
Please remove the space so that it appears like this: ...6mgghwp8bsd"/>
Once these steps are completed, try to verify ownership and let me know how you do.
Thanks for your help. I have changed it that many times now I'm not sure which version you seen. I have removed the code I had added onto a meta tag. I understand about putting between the two head parts of the code could you please give me the full line example meta... and i will put it in the right place. I have not deleted the file from the root directory as yet but if you still want me to I will. http://www.busybeewastewater.com.au/nortonsw_0ca9f410-eb53-0.html is a link to the file in the root directory.
Your meta tag looks properly placed and formatted.
I know this may sound silly, but I have seen it happen before.
Please go back into your Norton Safe Web profile and check the spelling of the site you registered, letter by letter to be sure it exactly matches: busybeewastewater.com.au
About a month ago, an owner could not verify because of a typo in the site name registered at Safe Web.
No apologies are necessary and it was not a waste of time - we got the right results!
Your site has been automatically queued for the rating evaluation and there is nothing else you need do at this point.
The evaluation may take 10 to 14 days (although I have seen it take much less time).
In the Norton Safe Web portal you should select the option "subscribe to rating change". This way, if your rating ever changes in the future, you will be notified by email. However, I don't believe this notifies you for your initial change from Untested to Safe.
