Understanding BackUp Files

Hi there.  Newbie here.  I have read many posts which have partially answered by question(s), but I want to make sure that I fully have my head around this deal.

Backing up the full system (Drive), not folders.  Current drive is approx 285GB full

Ghost created files

xxxx-pc_C_Drive 001.v2i

thru

xxx-pc_C_Drive001_s65.v2i

each of these 65 files is approx 4,194,000KB large.

since then, incremental recovery points:

xxx-pc_C_Drive001_i001.iv2i

thru

xxx-pc_C_Drive001_i005.iv2i

have been created.  one per day per my schedule of backing up everytime someone logs on.

There is also a file xxx-PC.sv2i which I believe is related to recovery efforts.

Now for the question(s)

Are the Files:  xxxx-pc_C_Drive 001.v2i     thru      xxx-pc_C_Drive001_s65.v2i     the BASE Backup?  When I look at any of these files thru the Ghost viewer, I see the entire contents of the system level backup.

I assume that Ghost made lots of smaller files as they look like they could be stored on a DVD size backup should I choose.

Thanks to another posting and answer, I now understand the relationship of Recovery Sets and how to schedule them.  when I schedule a new recovery set to be created, I assume that it will generate something similar to the 1-65 files again.

If I choose to schedule an event backup when someone "logs off", does that mean that a backup will be performed prior to Windows shutting down?  Will the Windows shutdown process be delayed until a BU is performed?  That would be a cool way to capture all changes before shutting down for the day.  OR.... does it just mean a BU will be performed when one person logs off and Windows is left running....

I know this sounds basic to many of you, but I am one of those folks who needs to understand what and how Ghost is handling the files....

Appreciate any guidance....

Thanks so much for the info.

I think that I may have broken the code for the multiple bu files all around 4gb large.  my backup external USB drive is formatted for FAT32 which I believe limits the file size that can be written.

just wanted to add that tidbit in case anyone else had a similar concern....

Thanks as always.  one of the best and most helpful forums that I have read....
