Well it has finally happened. I am upgrading from NAV2008 to NIS2010.
I have several questions about the process, but will break them down into seperate questions as to not confuse myself
Vista Home Premium 32 bit with Vista Service Pack 2
DSL Connection, no router just DSL modem
HP Desk top
Ok I know I need to uninstall the Norton AV2008 rather than install NIS 2010 over the top of it. I also know I need to download the Norto Removal tool. So here are my questions
Preparing:
1. Where on the Norton site do I get the Norton removal tool?
2. I know when removing the current NAV2008, I need to be off the internet while that happens. So do I disconnect the ethernet cable as well as the DSL phone line ( line from DSL Modem to phone jack)?
Symantec/Norton programs on my machine:
I know my computer came with NIS 2007 trial installed which I used until I installed NAV2008, so there may be some funky programs on my machine, or pieces of programs
When I go to
Control Panel>Program>Programs and Features>Uninstal or change Programs
I see the following Programs:
Live Update
Live Update Notice
Norton Antivirus 15.0.0.58
Symantec Technical Support Web Controls ( I had once used remote help from symantec)
Also on my desk top is an item SymFix_1002-1
Removal Process:
So to remove the above mentioned programs, do I need to go to Control Panel>Program>Programs and Features>Uninstal or change Programs and
3. just use the uninstall function?
Reboot
Then run the Norton Removal tool
Reboot
Run the removal tool again?
4. Or just use the removal tool right away?
5. After the process is done, do I need to look through areas on the machine for left over Norton/Symantec item?
(example C:/AppData or C:Users/Appdata and such?) Or does the removal tool take care of any left overs? As I said I know there are some older folders from 2007 in various locations
If any of the gurus can help me with the uninstall process, I would be very appreciateive.
I have more questions about the install process, but will ask them at a later time.
