Uninstalling product to regain install Key

Hi Everyone,

Is there any methods (that actually work) that will allow me to uninstall a Norton product & when I go to look at my account the "available installs" will reflect the uninstall?

I was running NIS 2012 & purchased Norton 360 v6.  I used the Norton uninstaller tool & when I looked at my account, it still shows the same # of installs available.?

Was your NIS a 3 PC version? Did you have activated more than one of those?

N360 is a different product with a different KEY and activation record so they won't interact if that is what you were looking for.

What you can do yourself is to open the new Norton Management App as below -- you do not have to install it -- and when you then click on the MyAccount TAB at the top it takes you to a new presentation of your account and there should be a dustbin icon that deactivates the PC in question.

If you have several PCs activated it is a little more complicated to decide which is which and that is something that installing Norton Management on each of your PCs puts right because you can give them user friendly names and each shows up in its own panel.

That's what you can do yourself or you can contact the Norton OnLine Support Team via the CHAT route as below and they can do it for you.

To get to The Norton Management Portal click on (https://manage.norton.com)

To contact customer support Click on this link https://www.norton.com/chat   and work on from there.

Please let us know how you get on .... or if you have a question.

Hi Hugh,

I am getting ready to perform a clean install of Windows 7 Pro on my laptop as issues with the laptop require a clean install. I currently have NIS 2012 installed on my laptop,  My NIS 2012 is a 5 license version and this is 1 of 5 installs.  I want to make sure I do not use any of the 4 available licenses as I will be using all 4 of the available licenses on various PC's.

So, with all that said, do you know if "removing" my version of NIS 2012 on my laptop via the Norton Mgmt Portal will prevent using additional licenses when I install it again after the clean install of Windows 7 Pro?

Also, do I need to uninstall NIS 2012 first, before performing a "remove", or is the "remove" feature similar to performing an uninstall??

I figure if all else fails, I can contact Tech Support if an additional license is used after I perform the clean install and reinstall of NIS 2012 but I hope to avoid having to contact them.

Thanks.

Carl

First question is how are you doing the "reinstall"? If you use the Restore to Factory Condition option many PCs have in the START / All Programs menu, or use the disks you can create from that, just bear in mind that you will get back whatever trial security software came with the PC as new and you will need to remove it and clean up with the matching tool before replacing the security software. We can point you in the right direction if you need help on this,

Secondly -- The answer to your "removing using the Norton Management" question is that it will not prevent a reinstall notching up another activation but will stop the resultant number from changing after you activate another PC, if you see what I mean. If you had already used 5 out of 5 then removing would leave you 4 out of 5 and then the activation would put you back to 5 ouot of 5 instead of giving the exceeded error message.

But very often when you reinstall on the same hardware as you will be doing the Norton system recognizes this and does not notch up another activation even if the uninstalling does not show a reduction in the number of activations (even if it is interactive and I've seen conflicting reports on this it could take time to promulgate.

But nothing is perfect so if necessary you can use the CHAT route which is said to be quick and painless ....

OK?

Hi Hugh,

Thank you for your response.  I will perform a clean install from scratch rather than Restore to Factory as I prefer not have all the programs reloaded that originally came with the PC.  I have all the latest drivers that I need ready to be installed after I perform the clean install as well as the software I want to load.

I appreciate your answer,  That is what I am hoping for as far as the activation count.  I'll give it a try and report on the results.

Thanks again.

Carl
