I have a virus on my computer that appears to be unrecognized by Norton antivirus 2009. I have updated the virus definitions several times and run a number of full scans and the scans come back telling me all is well and there are no problems.
When I enable my wireless connection to the internet, some remote server is using the virus to make my computer send out hundreds of emails. My ISP is recognizing the emails as infected and rejecting them, sending back an error message to my computer for each one. Norton antivirus 2009 then generates a help screen for each rejected email and for each help screen tries to hook up to the Symantec website to access the help page. Because the help pages are generated at several per second and pop up over the top of everything, I cannot use my computer for more than a few seconds when it is hooked up to the internet (there is a very short delay after the wireless is enabled before the virus recognizes its connected).
I tried calling Symantec support, and was told that for a fee of $100, a Symantec employee would look at my computer through the intnet (good luck, its generating hundreds of mesages and emails and there are very few clock cycles left to do anything else when its hooked up). Since the antivirus 2009 couldn't find anything, my confidence in the potential success of paying $100 for additional help was not high.
Any suggestions?
