Norton Internet Security often starts scanning when I start the computer or when the computer is idle for a short time. How do I stop these unscheduled scans? How do I set NIS to scan only when I want it to do so? Thanks.

The Idle Time Quick Scans are a high priority function and cannot be disabled. They only run when the computer is idle and they will pause when you begin using the computer again, so they should not interfere with anything you are doing. Do not be tempted to set the Idle Time Out setting to a large number, such as 30 minutes. Doing so will prevent the Idle Quick Scan from starting until you have left the machine idle for that amount of time. If your use of the PC prevents the scan from being able to run in idle time, it will eventually run when you are using the computer - as I said, it is a high priority item. Set the Idle TIme Out to a low number of minutes so that the scans can begin as quickly as possible when you leave the PC idle.
